Title: This weather SUX!
Post by: firedome on January 30, 2014, 04:52:34 AM
Haven't been able to work on the cars for weeks, just too cold in the garage, we have marginal heaters there and when it's below 20 degrees they just don't cut it...the '64 is soooo close to running again... COME ON SPRING!!(http://www.moparfins.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif)

Send it our way!!  We've had one day of rain in '14 and that was yesterday.  Drought in California... again.

If there's no decent electricity or CNG in your garage for a big heater, try a diesel heater. Those work nicely.

Although, below a certain point, even if the air gets warm enough, tools and parts are still too cold for to hold...

There's electric baseboards and propane heat -  it's the cost of running them! And the propane one is unvented so makes a lot of condensation - bad for cars and tools. I just  don't go there if it's under freezing (32 Fahrenheit) and it hasn't been above freezing for weeks!  If it's above 32 I can run the propane for just an hour and then just run electric and it'll stay decently warm to work in.

Hasn't been much moisture here either Scott... but what snow we have lingers forever it's so cold! Quite a few days when the HIGH was around 8 to 15.

I think it may get up to 33-34 tomorrow though, so a small break.

Supposed to be the 40's over the weekend.  It's 32 here now with a strange looking bright ball in the sky.  Haven't seen that in weeks either

It was a low of 65* yesterday.  Can't take much more of this as I might have to put the top up on my 'vert.

In all seriousness, the weather we are having here is way off.  65 in the winter is Bakersfield weather, not Nor. Cal.  I wish there was a way to move the high pressure away.

That's OK, one of these years Phoenix is going to dry up and blow away... we can always put on warmer clothes, but ya can't live w/o h2O  ;-)

There's a great book called "Cadillac Desert" ... read it and weep!

I've lived here 33 years and never was told I couldn't water my lawn or wash my car. While we do need to conserve water and other natural resources I'm not going to worry about things that might happen way in the future. Heck, there might be another ice age coming up sometime.

As the Swedes say, there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes!

If I lived in AZ, my lawn would be rocks sand and cactus, I'd throw away the mower!

I wish I could throw away my mower but with 2 acres of grass just not an option!

Bragging or complaining Scott?

If I still lived in the Bake it would be bragging.  After all, annual rain fall there is 5.4 inches.   But here, where it is supposed to be 27" a year, I am voicing a concern.

Weather really sux today.  8" and still coming.  I think you missed this one Rog.  It's a coastal storm.
We've been getting allot of bad/heavy coastal storms the ast 2 years

Well we're supposed to get 10-14" tonight... glad it's now, cause we're headin' to The City on Friday for our semi-annual dose of culture, staying at a cool new Midtown boutique hotel called Ink 48 - it's in an old printing plant 11th Ave at 48th Street.

Chris why don't you rip it out or let it die and plant rocks? that ain't NY, Xere-scaping makes sense in a desert. Watering 2 acres in AZ?

14 inches last nite... soon as I got done snowblowing the freaking plow came and put up a 3' wall at the end of the driveway.... grrrrr.  Tropical S FL sounds better all the time.

Hooray - we are supposed to get showers Thursday and Friday, and then two days of rain on the weekend.  Hope so!!

We have a reported .13 inches of rain so far this whole year!

Isn't that like almost an inch and a half of snow?

Maybe is CA, not AZ, that's going to dry up and blow away.

Now in the third day of "showers," "rain" is supposed to start tomorrow and Sunday.  What we are currently getting is light, but very welcome.  It is supposed to dump fairly hard the next 2 days.  We are grateful for anything.

Well, finally got a full half inch of rain over the past three days, which is a start for us. Only about three inches short for the year so far.

It's been snowing here every 2.5 days.  Another one Wednesday.  There has been no relief

Ya, more to come tomorrow nite... amount depending on the track, but looks like inland here in Bingo a few hunnert miles from the coast we won't get hammered too much, but NJ might ...yet again.  At least the longer forecast is for warming up somewhat middle of next week, I can't remember a straight month of super cold w/o any break like this for a long long time.

The southwest is actually looking at the possibility of rain from Wednesday all the way through Sunday. It actually means we will be misted, maybe some rain showers, off and on, to total less than an inch of rain throughout the whole period. I will update if the volume rises above one inch.

In the meantime, glad to hear a few of you are alive and handling this wornderful winter.

Glad to hear that the SW might get some moisture... that's never a problem here, if anything the big worry is floods.  We had big ones in '06 and again with Lee in 2011. FEMA is just now buying out owners in flood zones, over 200 houses will be demolished and never rebuilt there again. The big BAE plant was also flooded, it's still owned by the Air Force and it will also be demolished, luckily they didn't leave, just moved a few miles to an old IBM plant 3 mi away. IBM started here, in Endicott, and once had 14,000, now down to 800.
