Wow - sounds like you were pretty lucky! Deep enough that they had to dig for it is awfully  close to disaster.

Your experience has brought home to me that I need to stop relying on my eyeglasses and get myself some good wrap around safety goggles or maybe a full face shield.

Holy cow!  I got a metal sliver in my eye from a bolt on an exhaust manifold on a K car once.  If fell in through the vent holes on my goggles.

I stopped wearing them since and have not had an issue.

Bummer Brian

Other than a few days of inconvienence, sounds like you'll be OK.  Hope there is no pain

No pain Steve and not even a patch...Though I wouldn't mind playing pirate for a few days...Arggg Matie......just some ointment 3 times a day for a few days and sunglasses out side to keep the bright light away from my eye. thrashingcows2008-04-15 19:15:05

Yeee-owww Brian! Hate to hear shtuff like that....
I have welding spatter all over my glasses (yes glass....plastic would have done me in years ago) and I had a tiny divot in my lower lid probably from hot metal....but I have been pretty lucky not to get anything IN the eyes.
Hope your recovery goes smooth
