I don't know about that.  You can't get Dry Salami on the east coast unless it's bee shipped from a lllooooooooonnnnngggg way away.  Although it's an Italian meat, it's only made in Albania and San Francisco.  Cotto or Genoa Salami just doesn't cut it!
 
My Dad, born and raised in North Carolina, served in the Air Force and did a stint in Europe in the '50s.  He then sold Salami and Cheese for 32 years. He once said that every area he had been in in his life served its Pizza differently, reflecting the local flavors.  BUT, he also said that the first Pizza he ever ate in the U.S. that was anything like he had in Italy and Sicily was when he had a Pizza at El Chico #1 on Broadway in sacramento.
 
I always found that nteresting.
