VOAB UPDATE- - April 9 2010 - It's a Parts car now
« on: February 10, 2008, 03:43:34 PM »

Time to start the VOAB thread.

I don't have the little rust outs BoaB has, the biggest is the lower rear quarters.  There's 2 little holes from the inside out in the RR floor and one in the front by the trans hump.  But since the car is getting a 4 speed, that will get cut out anyway.  The rest of the car seems to be pretty solid.  Pretty soon there will be plenty of pictures

Last Fall I took the nose off and Potato helped me pull the engine and trans.  I have just about everythig  to get the body up to snuff, less paint.  Thinking of changing the color from Bronze to KKI  Light Tourquoise Poly with a tan roof and interior.

OK  I dropped the pan off the 440 I am planing to use for the VOAB.  Except for one journal, I would have just left it.  I think it will just need to have the cranked dressed up, hone the cylinders and re-ring it.  I would have just closed the mains back up if I didn't want to reseal the rear main and clean up/out the block. . .   It won't take much to get it up to snuff.  Makes me wonder if I should open up the other 440 I have and use that one, saving this one for a special project.

I'm a big fam of factory bronze colors...T5 is my favorite!!  But that Tourqoise is a nice color and with the tan interior and roof would be very sharp.

When I restored my 68 coronet rag I both rear quarters were riveted, brazed and screwed on....so I know where you are comming from.  I also removed 2 sets of inner fenders and rad supports from a B-body....that's a lot of spot welds to cut through....

Good color choice!  Actually, for me, any metallic color that would *not* be seen on an A-B-E musclecar is good to me!  I'll even support greens and browns if they are a good shade.

If you ever need a extra hand Steve, give me a ring. That quarter is a PIA, better get out the plasma cutter.

Oh I think it will need more than a plasma cutter.

The weather is starting to break so I will be starting on this real soon.  I'm already preping the new 1/4

Well as I said, the work has begun

Here is the new 1/4 semi ready.  It's all stripped, but I am afraid I am going to have to bastardize the top because this is a 2 door 1/4 and the vert is different.

This is the wheel well in the VOAB  if you look at it closely, the wheel well is bent and has alot more reinforcemnts attached then the 2 door had.  So now the plan is to splce it down where the strengthening bend is.  The sheet metal line at the top is what was left there by the previous body "mechanic".   The cut is not straight, had a ton of pop rivits in it (Most Popped), just an absoulte mess.  The 1/4 on the car was easier to take off then the one I prepped.  That one was a replacement, done right.

Notice how clean and straight the seam is below?  Apparently it was replaced sometime and then the car was hit again!   Only 4- 1/4" welds were holding it in place. There is also a "Y" gap between the 1/4 and the door at the top.   You can see it in the above pic.  I haven't quite decided how to fix it yet.  I can't see why it's there when the rest seems to be straight.  Maybe a porta power.  Either way, it will be a far site better than what it was.  Except for the rear 1/4s, there is hardly any rust on this car at all.  It's all surface.  Floors have a few spots from soaked carpets.

This thing must have been like a bowl of Jello on the bumps. . . .

I'll make the BoaB look like childs play
No it's not even close to being done Leanburn

VOAB may as well stand for "Vodka on a Binge" with all the hits the car took!!
If you are going to drive drunk,do it in a C 'vert.LOL!! (however I would not recommend it.)
Steve, that gap between the trunk floor and 1/4 extension  is normal. The BoaB has the same gap where you can slide loose change through. From the factory it is filled with seam sealer--and lots of it.

Hey Polaraco -

I have a full floorpan from a 65 Polara and a rear floorpan section from a 65 Fury.  If you need any let me know and maybe we can work something out...
