Barge on Budget 2014 Bit of a lull.

That's why they didn't work well Jason.  Connecting to the lower was done in B Bodies.  I agree it's not the best way.

I did find a way to make the sway more functional in Polaraco.  I shortened the frame links and raised the bar.  I think I brought them up about 2".  Don't know if that can be done on the 60's or not.

The formals are bolted to the frame like the B Bodies were.  The last time I was under a Formal, I noted it was identicle to the Fusie, with just the modifications to the sway and lower control arms.  What that means is, a formal sub could go into a Fusie with the upper control arms..  There's one way I can upgrade the front end completely in polaraco. . . .  But dash first.

Using the best bushings you can get helps too.  I still like the ones from Justsuspensions.  They are the cats meow and give you a nice firm ride.  One of these days, I'll do the uppers.

The poor design probably explains how and why the strut bars get bent.
Even the FMJ body cars did the same thing--sway bars on the strut bar.

In this pic,the left tie  rod is the factory original.
The right one is an NOS one--but it is too long.
Probably for a truck--but does have the 11/16" shaft like a C body.

I scored the proper ones from Lawrence Roblin.Going there Saturday.Plus send back the wrong ones to Jack.

As mentioned,I did as much with what I got.
I installed the new inner tie rod and new sleeve.
I made sure I counted the same amount of threads.
Now waiting for the outers

I cleaned up the sway bar connection to the strut bar.
Hoping to finish up the left side this week.
I am a dumbass.I should have checked my old pics  and shop manual for reference installing the sway bar.
Why?
I put the damn thing in upside down...
Cripes...I am more rusty than the car in that respect.
Looky here....Good thing is... it is only finger tight.

I had no idea that the sway bar attached to the strut rod. That just seems like  the worst place for it to attach. The load transferred to it would cause the bar to deflect . I wonder why they didn't attach it by some other means to the lower control arm.

Looks like a poor design to me..and inefficient. The sway bar is only as effective as the mounting points.

When I redid my front end on the wagon I had a recurring squeak and clunk front the front end.  I finally tracked it down to the front sway bar links.  This was the final straw to make me call up FirmFeel for one of their bars.  One of the best upgrades I think I've made on the car.

Lea, just out of curiousity, why didn't you go with disc brakes?

I never had any problem with the drum brakes in the past.
Quality shoes and keep them adjusted properly and they stop on a dime.
I only experienced brake fade twice in the New Yorker when fooling around. That was enough for me.
I know their limitations and know not to overdrive them.
I got used to driving drum brake cars.
Translation:Plan your stops.LOL.
Brian; I was considering the sway bar upgrade, but it is not in the budget right now.
Once I get the car on the road,I may reconsider it.
