Barge on Budget 2014 Bit of a lull.
« Reply #945 on: March 20, 2011, 04:17:49 PM »

Here we are into the third month of 2011 and I am finally getting the bug to work in the garage.Got the furnace running and cleaned up the dump from this past winter's misadventures.
Basically, all winter I did use the garage for doing repairs on the waygn, but left it in a mess.
I got her all cleaned up and work hass commenced on the BoaB.

I now have all  the front end parts I need.
It took some time, but I waited for the right deal to pop up and grabbed it when i had the money.
The left lower ball joint was OK,but it made sense to replace it now.
Not cheap, but got it cheaper than the right one by almost 50 bux less on E bay..

Outer tie rods and sleeves are NOS,idler arm, strut bar bushings, and inner tie rods are NORS Moog parts. All for 65 bux!!
Many thanks to my buddy Jack  Forkey who hates selling C body stuff,LOL!!

Either way,I got all my quality parts at a fraction of the cost of a total rebuild kit made in China.

I also scored this cheap sway bar kit.
I cut the old original welded one off and the replacement makes intallation easy with the clamp,nut/bolt clamping design.
Should the bushings ever wear out, replacing them will be made easy.

I cleaned up the sway bar connection to the strut bar.
Hoping to finish up the left side this week.

I like that strut bar set-up!!  I cut and drilled out the originals so I could put in the new bushings, then bolt them shut again.  But that looks like a much better set-up...where did you find those?  Not that my big Firmfeel bar needs anything....Just curious.

Lea do you know a source for US made front end parts for Fusey 70/71 Furys?

That's going to be the world's best 68 Newpie when done!
Every detail restored.

I LOVE his bushings.   They are twice as much as anyone elses, but are real good

Couple stumbling blocks today.
The outer tie rods I bought are too long. They fit my new sleeves, but even with the threads all the way in,they stick out by 2 inches. One was actually boxed wrong and is left hand thread--it is an inner tie rod.Called Jack whom I bought them and he will exhange for the correct ones. But that will not be until next weekend.
Crap.
So,I moved on to other things.
With the new lower ball joint and front brake assembly installed,I proceeded to search the well hidden torsion bar boot--the one I put away so I won't lose it....You know how that goes.
Found it and slid it on the torsion bar....damn thing split wide open on me.
Double crap.
Well I will have to search for more parts tomorrow.
I want to finish up the left side before ripping apart the right side.

Thanks for  the compliment!!

There are a couple good ones out there, but I choose not to buy a whole complete kit .Mainly for financial reasons, and some kits use questionable quality parts.

I buy a piece here, another there when the slush funds have slush to spend.
Besides,I am in no hurry.

I had no idea that the sway bar attached to the strut rod. That just seems like  the worst place for it to attach. The load transferred to it would cause the bar to deflect . I wonder why they didn't attach it by some other means to the lower control arm.

Looks like a poor design to me..and inefficient. The sway bar is only as effective as the mounting points.
