Barge on Budget 2014 Bit of a lull.

Ok,sure it is darker than the original color.I can live with that.
Let's face it,the car will not be an "original unrestored survivor".
But at least I am enjoying what I am doing and also the car will be well preserved and still look great.
The trunk and belly will not be show car quality perfect.
I am emulating how the factory did it--which means there will be spots missed and/or splotches of paint or runs..LOL!
As a reminder, she was a sales bank car where she did not get the extra special attention like the ordered cars.
As I keep labouring away stripping the floor pans of its undercoating I am finding more and more clues on the quality  control back then-which was very little compared to toady's standards,IMO.
I am surprised she did not rust out completely since there is more bare metal hidden under the black goop.
I tested the undercoating I bought on a parts fender to see how it will cover.
I will need two coats of it to "look" factory. It is not exact, but again, the car wil be well protected.
I am almost done under there...I can't wait to install the gas tank and rear axle.
Cheers

Today is the first of three days I will be in the garage thrashing on the car.I must finish the bottom of the car in a week.
Why?
Next Sunday May 24,my buddy James will be here to help me freshen up the rear axle.New seals, service the bearings, and swap out the 2.76's for  2.94 gears.A little more city friendly and still cruise on the highway.
Once the axle is serviced,it and the gas tank, lines and all are going in.
I can put the front drums back on,bleed the brakes.
Then she can finally be back on her wheels after 3 years on axle stands.
I am pumped!! Can't wait!
Big changes are coming!!

Does that mean if I bring some Alberta plates we can take her for a spin!

With no exhaust and rear window out of it,we will not get very far...LOL
I had her running last week but she really needs a tune up,and fuel pump.

It is the Canadian Victoria Day long weekend.
That means three days of beer and working on the BoaB..
I got the beer fridge in the garage stocked up and I put on my required safety gear..

I then focused on the passenger side floor pan.
The factory undercoating had to go.Ditto for the coat hanger that has been there since 1974.
I cleaned up the welds from the patches Ray and I installed.
I then spray it with epoxy primer.

During:
Don't let the factory undercoating fool you.
It does hold moisture in.
Result? surface rust under it;

Not done working yet...
I still had some energy left (and beer) so I thought I could do something better than watch the primer dry..
So,I broke out the undercoating and did the rear wheel wells.
I could not bring myself to d o the rear half of the car...yet..
Stuff is messy and drips on my floor--not to mention hard to get out of your hair ..
It's late and I'm thirsty..UUrrp.
Til tomorrow..G'day,eh?

Thanks,Foamy.
I was a bit lazy after yesterday's blitz on the Boab.
I spent some quality time with my wife.and then later on I ventured out into the garage.
In keeping with my goal to get her on tires,(the car..not the wife)
I buffed the drums clean in preparation for the sandblast booth.
I "unswedged" the front drums.I have a couple of good used righty hubs but one of the drums are junk..So I plan on making one out of two. They are already machined-ready to go..Just some assembly required.
I am hoping to use a friends sandblast cabinet-if he let's me.

I have brandy new bearings and seals for the front drums.Plus I bought an extra set for the New Yorker.(Dang, that r/f bearing  is growling again.Screw it I bought two sets.)
For now,I jammed the old ones in just so I can get ready to move the car inside the garage. The new bearings and races will be installed before she sees any road time.

While thae paint was drying,I focused on a mechanical aspect that has been waiting to be done for a couple of years....the right side ball joint. It was toast.
I removed the factory install piece. It had the paint daubs on it and the broke- off zerk fitting.
Following Polaraco's advice,I did not crank down the torsion bar--as the FSM suggests.I simply supported the control arm with my jack..
