Let me tell you about Ultra One >>NOW UPDATED<<
« on: January 31, 2008, 05:29:56 PM »

As you know, Bob and I went to Ultra one to see Miss Belvedere.  I also bought some degrease for my wash tank and bought 5 gallons of the De-Rusting Compound.  Bob can tell you better about the de-rusting product.  He's done allot more with it than I have so far.  But I will tell you what I did with it and am very happy.

De-rusting.
I had to make a vapor separator for the Polaraco Gas Tank.  I am still spitting fuel out the vent lines.  That is a whole different story.

I took a surface rust covered gallon can and a bracket I made for it from some rusty sheet metal and submerged them.  I wanted them real clean for soldering.  I just dunked them into the 5 gallon can for about 5 hours.  I took out 2 completely rust free pieces of metal, ready to solder.

Degrease
I took a grimy 440 Cylinder head and just dropped it into the tub the way it was.  Sludge, bolts, heat shields, the works.  In a few hours, untouched, I lifted the head out to see what was happening.  I could see the yellow marks on the valve springs clearly and lots of turquoise paint.  I left it in there for a few days while I was away.  Tonight,  I saw all the paint on the outside, and pools of black mud laying in the head.  The mud just poured out like water.  I also saw the carbon was gone on the exhaust ports.  I'll take a few Pictures for you tomorrow.

Keep in mind, my pump in the tank is not working.  so there was no agitation.  I have to say, you guys are missing out on some really good stuff.

Actually Chris, for what it does, it's cheap.  But I walked out of there with 15 Gallons fo the stuff for around 275.

Here's my bracket and can.  The bottom of the can was about as rusty as the pieece of metal I made the bracket with.  A scrap of which is on the bottom of the picture

And the Degreaser.  Keep in mind, the solution was COLD!

That's not rust you see.  Something funky with the flash changed the color, but you get the idea.  I think the flash reflected off the red cover on the tank.  But the grease is all gone.  Look at the top of the head bolt!

This was 24 Hours, Cold.  You big block owners know how crudded up these plug shields can get with rust.  Frankly I am impressed.

My turn!

Here are some pics of a 1914 oil lamp that I soaked in Ultra One. The top is still rusty as it stuck out of the bucket (as a contrast) but the inside and outside are clean, there is only minor pitting where the rust did it (not like acid, which would pit the whole thing) and the mounting stud nut spins freely on the threads. This was so frozen it would have broken off if I tried to use a wrench on it!

Now the before pictures of the front door and red glass lens. The glass is crimped into the metal door, so I hope the Ultra One gets the rust out from underneath...

and after it soaks overnight I'll post updated pics of it...

Ok....drum roll.......

After soaking for 26 hours, the lens for the 1914 oil lamp lost most of it's 94 years of rust! The small dots are black paint that's still left and a few rusty spots, so it's going back for another overnight soak.

I spoke with Ultra One today about you boys up in the cold country.  He currently does not have any distribution outside the US.  The problem is the taxes.

However, I did discuss this with another Fins Member who would like to become a distributor.  There really isn't a good program at this time, but one is in the plans.

Hopefully we might have somethig put together for you by the spring thaw.

Keep you posted.
