PROJECT FURYVERT PART I
« on: January 22, 2008, 03:56:06 PM »

I'll make an attempt to post some pics here on my ongoing process of painting the engine compartment and replacing the 440 in my '70 Fury 'vert.

Wanna post some pics for me Lea?

I am replacing the harness with one from my parts car, painting the engine compartment, and converting it back to manifold style exhaust as well as replacing the 440.

The interior is already done, but I'll post some pics on that too.  I installed the console and Nigel at National Moparts had the buckets. I bought them from him almost 6 years ago and had them redone.  That was well worth it IMO.

I hope to have it done by late Spring and have it ready for a trip to Carlisle.  I may place it for sale in the corral to see what kind of interest it garners.

It's a GT clone BTW.

The radio was installed by alocal stereo shop.  It needs to have a little more bass than it has, hard to hear with the top down.

And those are dryer sheets in the tailpipes to keep mice away.  I use mothballs everywhere else.

Rob how did you paint the engine bay?? with a small paint gun or did you get mixed paint put into areosol (sp?) cans??  Did you sand blast first or what did you do?

Looks Good BTW...

I hand sanded my a** off.  It is not perfect, far from it, but way better than it was.  Another C body friend referred me to a parts store in Connecticut that still mixes paint and puts it in aeresol cans.  I also painted the underside of the hood.  I also primed it first and sanded it again.  I did some POD (painting over dirt) but that's as good as it's going to get.

That's also a new Steer and Gear extra firm steering box in there.  We'll see how that works out and will report when I can.  That's also the last new Moog Pitman arm I bought, they are  now discontinued.  Good thing they don't wear much.

If it's POD, you can't tell.
I gotta do that with the vert too.  That's getting a color change though.  I think I'll leave out the dirt though

Not much POD, but in a few spots you can tell.  It looks good in the important parts.  Reassembly will be a bear. I still have the booster to paint as well as the exhaust manifolds and the bracing rods and battery tray. I decided to paint those separately.

I have a lot of single stage deep burnt orange metallic (FK5) left over if anyone is contemplating a similar project.  I'll make you a good deal.

Wow, I haven't updated in awhile.  I have been assembling since early April.  We are down to the last few things before the key gets turned.   I need to wire up the electronic distributor and the coil, the electric choke on the carb and the hideaway headlamps.  2 more lower radiator bolts, a lower hose clamp, then install the manifolds and a temp exhaust and we'll see if it runs! I'll have to take some fresh pics in the next few days.
