SJak

I read an article in the paper about gas prices blaming global demand as the reason.

Well, over here, the gas price is almost 70% excise and sales tax... so the demand&supply-excuses dont really apply here, except of course when they want to impose yet another increase, it's a popular excuse. However, the same thinking does not apply when global oil prices drop, then you get various nonsense like "keeping supply levels at a safe level" etc. But price increases are mostly tax-related, the excuse nowadays is that they apply inflation-correction on excise Of course, high fuel prices are a major culprit of the inflation

Converted into dollars, regular is currently around $9 a gallon in The Netherlands, in most other EU-countries its quite a bit cheaper.

So, and I knew it all along, that is where some of the politicals get the idea of adding $1.00-$2.00, and as much as $2.50 to a gallon of gas tax from.

No dramatic changes.

There was a peak in 2007, in 2008 it dropped a lot. And since then prices increased slowly and steadily.

Now we're again at the highs of 2007, but this time no drop in sight, even worse, they talk of more fueltaxes in 2014. I will fill up moreoften in Belgium if that happens, the difference is about $1.25 a gallon already, and I live near the border.

The demand side, such as it is, is coming from China, India etc. and not Europe., and it will only get worse as long as their economies hold and 2 billion people want to emulate the unsustainable lifestyles of Americans.

The article said China and the like was affecting prices in Europe too.  I mean our price more than doubled since this bean bag we have in the office has been there

How much are you paying now? And is this increase mainly due to taxes, or because of greedy oil companies?

Well, here in California, south, gas is around $3.75 a gallon right now, down from just under $4.00 last couple months. Not sure about the east coast, but Arizona runs around $3.35 a gallon about a month ago.
