Newport for sale - maybe....
« Reply #60 on: May 19, 2013, 05:17:37 AM »

Getting back to the original post, /6 cars make  a lot more sense for these times,
and even more so in the future... there were some cool early '60s models
with /6s, '60-66 Dart and Valiant, and all of the '62 and up B body
cars were available with the Leaning Tower of Power... I recently saw a
nice and solid '63 Dodge 330 with a /6 and 3 spd column shift, cool
car, and very reasonable for a good driver at $2900.

With all the torque of a 413 and all, getting the rpm down to the 1600-1800rpm will give you a couple more mpg.

That '64 Plymouth I mentioned is back on Craigslist.  Been there a while but at 5 grand it's going to stay.  He added a photo-bucket link - the paint is baaaaadddd!!!  Probably why it's still unsold.  Still, it's making me think.

OK, here it is.  (I was asked earlier.)  If I could get ten grand for my car it would be sold, but I know I will not get that - or anywhere near.  So, that would leave me with another car but no money to do anything with it that might need to be done - like a paint job.  All I would gain is mileage - which I want - but I would be in the position I currently am: in need of a paint job (or other items) and no extra funds.

A catch-22....

It may have done better with those monster tires you had on it

A six w/ OD would do way better even... yes there were a few C's with
/6, but their weight had to work against getting decent gas mileage. A
stripper '62 Dodge/Plym B body only weighs 3100-3200 lbs! And that's
why they were absolute terrors at the drags.

Good luck with the $10k thing, my '70 Fury was listed as higher price
than a '69 Newp, and at 82k orig mi and virtualy no rust probably in
about equivalent condition, and it still took me forever to get $5800
out of it
for pity's sake!  The new owner got a great car,  I lost a
few
bucks, but got out of it, which I needed to do to pay off some
bills, and my new '64 cost me $1800 delivered from Colorado, so the
balance was significant, so even though my modus operendi has usually
turned out to be Buy High and Sell Low :-) at least it was enough cash
balance to make the sacrifice worth it.  And
the sad saga of unappreciated Mopar C bodies continues. :-(  But
if it allows one to drive a fun car more regularly, it may just be
worth
it... so it turns out sometimes it's all about attitude change. I'm
totally getting
into the idea of driving a smaller '64 Dodge 440, and I might just drop
a /6 in there. It's all good.

That car I've been watching was not on the 'list yesterday.  Could finally have been sold.

The way I look at it is change is good and an opportunity to experience something different!  I've never had a B body and am looking forward to an abundance of available parts;  same is true of A body cars, I may get back into one, one of these days, I sure wish I'd never sold my 71 Demon.  A /6 one would be cool, and rare too since most have been converted.

Demons were nice looking cars. There are a few of them still around, 69-72 are by far my favorites.

Actually they only made Demons for 2 yrs, '71/72... Duster came out in '70 and the Dodge dealers complained and got their version the next year... the name was changed to "Dart Sport" for '73 because thin skinned fundamentalist types were offended by the "devil" connotation of the Demon name, kind of a shame because the logo with the little devil & pitchfork was cool looking, at least to me.  And so it goes...

Thanks for that info, thought it was kind of funny I never saw any other years for one. I guess it is more the era of the A bodies in general, 69-72 which look the best then.

There are a number of Darts, Dusters, and even a Demon on the Sacramento/Chico area CL.  A few are /6 cars.  All have been automatics; I would really want one with a 4-speed.  I could also go for a '74-5 Dart 360 Sport!  That was the "fastest US Built car" in '75 according to Car and Driver that year.  While not the MPG of a /6, would still be better than any 440.

The wife of the guy selling the '71 Newp in Red Bluff contacted me.  The car is a 383.  Hmmmm....
