Fly me out to NJ, I'll drive across the US on your expense, and then fly/train me back to Chico.  Now, when could I do this?  Perhaps September.....

A preacher takes a virgin across country.....

aren't there laws against that sort of thing?

I suppose I could move it west 250 miles to Ohio if that would make it easier

Hmmmmmmm.  Ohio's a bit closer.  Wish we had someone in the state we could have pick it up there.  I fear our membership is spread too thin across the US and Canada to do a relay.

OK, fly me to Ohio....  I have October available....

The problem is the price of gas & Diesel. It has come down a little bit lately though.

Last year I got a friend I'd used for hauling 4 othere cars  to
bring my '58 from NM to NY for $1000 but that was sort of a special
favor, and he's sick now I hear, unfortunately. U-Ship might be your
best resort at this point.

There is no way I want to drive to oregon again.  Not that I don't want to see Dave and Snotty, bit that's a 2 week trip.  It took me 11 days by myself.

A train would be hellishly expensive.  The best quote I got was $1246.  I'm simply going to have to save up to afford it.  Driving the car back after flying out pencils to out about the same money I'm afraid.  Plane ticket $350, figure 15 MPG at worsst for 3100 miles at 3.50 a gallon is about 723 bucks.  hotels would average about $50 a night, for $200.  Meals for four days figure to be about $30 a day, with a total of $120.  Add it all up, $1393.00  It just doesn't become cost effective at all.

There's a Hobby trailer too, but I would need something to come back with.

I made the trip in a 1975 Honda with a bad wheel bearing. Going through Kansas was the worst, the ruts in the road made me drive a steady 70mph max in the fast lane, then everyone would honk at me and flash their lights because they refused to pass me on the right, so I had to get in the ruts and bounce back and forth. I did the trip Virginia Beach to Olympia, Washington in 75 hours, and yes, rest areas were my friend, gas stops included big gulps and chips most of the time, I think I got one burger out of the whole deal. The things we do to see an (now ex) wife.
