Well it looks like my dark blue F3 over there <---- is SOLD.  I'll miss it, but not the electric window and wiring issues. It 's one super solid car, but no sense keeping it any longer, given that the '70 vert is almost identical and much more worth dumping money into... and that's what we all do with these  old Mopars, that's for sure!! The buyer is getting a good deal, and I'm getting some garage space back, but I'm already thinking about what will fill it, something old like from 1939-40 probably. Nature, and car lovers, abhor a vacuum!

Congratulations on selling the 'ol F3 Roger. It's always a good feeling to send one down the road...but years later sometimes old feelings do come back. I don't think that will be the case with you though as you obviously have a much more desireable model there to tinker with and improve. A convertible is one classy ride and since it's a 70 F3...man...it just doesn't get any better than that!
Take your time to fill that hole in the garage. Sometimes I think the pursuit is more fun than the actual purchase.

Thanks, and you are so right about the pursuit... it's so much easier now than it was 30 yrs ago when all we had was Hemmings, almost too easy sometimes. But finding a good deal for what you can afford has actually become much harder thanks to all the bloody auctions on TV.

Having seen the car, I know it was a nice car.  Far fewer issues than many that age.

Yep this big tank only weighs 3700 lbs, and a new (and tiny) BMW 3 series weighs about the same!!!

I'm hoping that 1970 F3s have less issues!  It helps that it has no PW and no A/C... like they say:  Keep It Simple Stupid... in my case that's a necessity!

I got a piss-poor price for it, frankly, way less than I had in it, but I'm a pragmatist and with old cars you have to realize that  sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on.
If you hang on too long, it just deteriorates.

Rarely can we get our money back on these 'ol C's. Almost never can we make anything. We're in for the fun and enjoyment Roger. You are absolutely right about cutting your losses and moving on. That's a smart move. Now you can focus on the vert!

Absolutely, they have to be rare to begin with, and if they are that rare they cost a ton of money to begin with. It is almost impossible to make money on restoring cars unless you are doing work for someone else, just like Chris does, they bring it in and pay for his talent. It will take another 20-30 years before any of our cars are worth more than we put into them, and then only if we put them in storage and rarely take them out and don't have to do anything to them in the meantime, which is not possible. Heck, look what happened to Miss Belvedere, and she was in a time capsule (sort of)!

Yep, when it comes to investment  in our C's, in the short run we're screwed, then , as John Maynard Keynes once said:  "and in the long run we're all dead!"

One thing I've learned, the hard way, is that old cars, even once you have them all nice and pretty and restored, still cost a lot in time and money to insure, register, repair, maintain, store, and, finally, drive. Frankly I don't think I can handle more than 1 or  2 anymore, and even then it would have to be used a LOT to make it worth it.

My ex-71 SF sold for about the money it cost me for purchase, shipping to Europe, customs, parts etc. The only thing it costed is garage space (which I may or may not have rented to someone) and time.

Sjak, because of the rarity of big US cars in Europe vs the demand, you
can import one, play with it, and make money. Can't do that here,
there's more Cs than people who want them right now, because most car
folks here are either sheep or damm fools, why else would a '57 Chevy
vert bring more than a '57 Thunderbird, Caddie, or Lincoln 'vert, 
for example. Mark my words though, C verts time will come. Here's the
surprising production figures for '70, last year of C-body
convertibles. Bear in mind that GM went on to make Full Size converts
for 5 more years in large numbers, and Ford until 1973, while there
were NO more big Mopar verts afer '70. They are far rarer, and while
rare doesn't always mean pricey, with the prices of Mopar muscle
cars  out-stripping those of Ford and GM, and very low C vert
production, the day will come, maybe not soon, but inevitably, when C
verts will be those most sought out by full size convertible lovers and
collectors.



1970 Production figures, Full Size US convertibles:

(last year for Mopar C vert):

Chevy: 9,562

Pontiac: 7, 223

Buick: 9,776

Olds; 6,256

Cad: 15,172 (!) these are surprisingly common! Guess rich folks can afford the toys.

Ford: 7,085

Mercury 1,833

Dodge: 842

Chrysler: 2,191

Plymouth: 1,952

Total GM : 47,989

Total Mopar: 4,985

Mopar only about 1/10 of GM !!

GM went on for 5 more years of full size verts.

Here is why C verts will someday be far more desirable to own.

AS for me, I don't care about value, I just love then the way they are!

No I didnt mean it like that. Even here its not that easy to break-even on a C, except maybe on a Fuselage 300, or on a car in really mint condition. I was lucky with the SF.

Now, now, play nice, I happen to like the A, B and E bodies right along with the rest of them. Matter of fact, you could say the 2 door cars actually have a higher desirability than the 4door cars, or, as advertised, the family car (the big cars with 4 doors or Grandpa's car).
