Of course phase one is getting my Shelby Dakota freshened up to be my daily driver before rolling my son's 65 B'cuda in for the tear-down... His little brother enjoyed helping me get them ready as much as I enjoyed the help! I'm dragging it home from the paint shop tomorrow mid-day. Stripe kit should be here by next weekend. Assembly should be complete by mid November.

Are you registered with the Shelby Dakota Association? I almost bought one out in Arizona when I was looking for my Dakota Sport donor truck.

I was doing some search for information on the Shelby Dakota last year (red one out in Phoenix for sale at a salvage yard, semi-rough shape), and I located a Shelby Dakota Association, which had a name/location and identification of about 40 percent of them, given they are all numbered. Do a search and you will more than likely find it, owners are pretty proud of the fact it was the fastest factory vehicle in 1989, including faster than a Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, but not sure about the Corvette(but the Corvette was pretty doggy that year, Shelby may have beat it), all stock 318, electric radiator fan, there's something about a first year transmission (prototype at the time), 4spd trans, and lots of Built by Shelby and the number on it. Check it out, reading a little bit about them, they got real excited when someone new showed up and identified itself as a real one. Two colors, red and white, special interior color.

First gen are really well built trucks for what they are, I've had an '88 and have a '95 and love it (plus all the time to rebuild it). The second generation ones are nice looking, love the R/T versions.

She looks good in white.

Every white car I have ever had was a lemon.  That's why I am being so passive on commenting on the color.  The last white car I had was a 93 Spirit.  what a horror story

Like the white too... I used to not care for it, but some of my best
cars have been white, that sort of changed my mind, now the wife's new
Xterra is white. Nice job!

White is a show of purity and brightness. Steve and I are not very pure or bright, but I do ask for forgiveness from time to time (and as a brother, I want to believe Steve does, too). My 95 Dakota was a neat one. Black with every option, white one with no options (AC because it is mandatory in AZ). I took the guts (literally everything but the rear and front end and rack and pinion) and swapped the black truck's guts into the white truck's body. Even the Dakota Sport graphics are opposite, being black on white instead of white on black.

My 92 was red and white.  I loved that truck.  But the white part still left me with my share.  First year V8 and it ate overdrive units.

white, red, black or blue....  it's just a matter of if you got a lemon or not.
 
I purposely bought it white in 89 because they made less of them.  My 88 Dakota was red.
 
I have 76k on the Shelby and the OD unit is just as tight as the day it was new..... From day one,unless I was going to be cruising above 45 mph for any amount of time, I'd turn the OD off and keep it as a 3spd. Above 45 and OD went on. I've pretty much worn the lettering off the button. I've also only towed ~4k lbs only 3 times with it.
 
Speaking of transmissions......Blew the input/snout off the torque converter in my diesel Ram last Sunday evening. Wife had a fit cuz I towed it home with her Durango....
