One trick 8 track!!
« on: June 05, 2011, 03:53:17 PM »

I have helping out my buddy Doug with his 73 Adventurer for a while off and on .
He's going with a 70's theme with slotted mags,vintage wooden steering wheel,goofy foot dimmer switch--and a hump mounted 8-track....

Doug scored the vintage 8 track at a yard sale and was not sure of it worked or not.
It is mounted on a bracket that came with the truck which used to have a CB radio on top..

Well, the 8 track did not work but it gave Doug the idea to hog it out and install a modern radio with CD player with outputs for MP#,etc..
Using a piano hinge he saved the face, cut up an old broken Don Maclean American Pie tape and inserted the deck.
Pretty kewl if you ask me.

Cool.. is that a factory tach or one cut into the dash?

He will also need a sun tach and a sun vacuum gauge to be true 70's...

A tuff steering wheel would look great in there too.

The tach is actually an aftermarket one stuffed behind a factory face from a 77 truck.
Looks factory and is much more accurate than the factory one.
The vintage wooden wheel is more to Doug's liking and he has owned it for many years.
He refinished the real wood and cleaned up the spokes.
he says the Tuff Wheel would be too much black inside the truck.

I had to fix his truck today.
ity suffered a nuclear meltdown and the main fusible link was burnt rendering the truck a 1/2 ton paperweight.
The ignition switch fell apart and shorted out.
I did the MAD conversion on it since the 73 trucks did not have the shunt like the cars.
He already had the steering shaft pulled out when I got there.
hee pulled the cluster out while I did the wiring.
Fixed the switch and got her back running again.

The Downieville Volunteer FD had one of those - I loved rolling in it to fires!!  It was powered by a 318 with a 4-speed.  It was a hoot!

We had a couple of those as crash trucks and a brush truck.  Along with a old GI 6 X 6.

You're right Scott.  They were a hoot.  But kind of limited on the top end.  4.10 rears

I kind of like that generation cab in the 90's better

Not so.  All the ones we had were 318's.  I think one had a 4 barrell on it
