Finally caught up with the Great Wind Escapade here... whoa... So LSS,
without going back and reading everything, I assume the wind generators
weren't generating enough? You put the old ones on eBay and are getting
2 new legit ones?  Guy running the Missouri Co. sounds like a real
whack job... how do you find these nuts?!

Don't worry, in VT there are quite a few well established and reputable
solar & wind outfits, VT tends to attract folks who like leading
edge green energy technology.  NRG Systems in Hinesburg is one of the
leading wind measurement instrumention and small scale wind generator
companies in the world. Plus having a son living there who is a
Physicist will help us to evaluate the technology, not to mention
learning what NOT to do from you know who ;-)

The problem I found with the wind is the units themselves.  If you go with big ones, you need allot of wind and they are expensive to install.  That's why I chose to go with a bunch of smaller ones.  The over all package is a bit more expensive, but the output is 3 times greater and you don't need a allot of high winds

Glad you got the wind generation working right!

We've been doing more research, I'd like to add wind later on, but think for our situation when we do
our
new retirement house (we don't know where yet, either: FL, AZ , CO or
VT!) we will start with solar, I figure we'll need about 7-9 kWs, the
collectors will vary in size depending on which of the 4 states
obviously, you need more in VT, although even VT gets more solar input
even than Germany, which has more solar systems as a percentage than
almost anywhere in the
world. More study needs to be done, but we've got a couple years
before we move to refine the system. We'll design buy and install it,
our son's advanced Physics degrees were specialized in Sensors &
Instrumentation at Stoney Brook, one of only 2 such programs in the US,
and he worked on the big super-collider at Brookhaven Lab, so it should
be fairly straightforward stuff for him. He's working on a combination
Geo-thermal/Passive/ Active/Solar system for his next house, negative
energy consumption at all times year round only 20 mi from Canada.

Steve could sell solar collectors in Seattle!

That's the 21st century version of selling  fridges to Eskimos!

I ordered 10 more panels to start my awning and going to mount some verticle panels on the west side of the house too.  I have enough hardware left over to mount 5 of them.

So you have about 2 kilowatts total right now? How much planned when done? Who made the panels (a
bunch are Chinee these days, no way Jose, gotta be US made),  how
much $$$ invested total so far? It seems about 6-8 kW is about
normal for most house installs. What kind of inverter and storage do
you have? My big prob in VT is our gable is pitched E-W, so really it'd
have to go free standing  out in the yard. Whereas here in NY my
back roof faces almost due S. The house across the street just got a
complete professional install, takes up about 3/4 of his front
roof.

I only found 1 US companythat even comes close to the specs of these panels, but they are way out there in price.  At least mine came from Korea.  Can't be avoided I guess.
