"Merle Haggard Blvd"  that's right, he's from there right? Always
one of my favroites, along with Geo Jones, that was/is real country,
unlike the pop-y Nashville shee-it they have now...

So is this mandated ?  sorta like a pawn on a chessboard, they move you to where the need is.

I will not recommend a hotel that I would not stay in.  But, if he's cheap I can name names.

[/QUOTE]

OK, there are two issues in this post that I must address.  Ahem....

You must know that I HATE Country Music.    Yes, you saw that correctly, yet here I've been for 19 years in the heart of California CW Land!  Yes, the Haggard is from here, and Jones, and let's not forget Buck Owens - who also has his own street named after him.  And there are many more, some of whom I've performed funerals for while my ears bled from those singing at the service.

I truly beleive that God has enjoyed every minute if it.  Ha!

Seriously, I live in the area known as "Oildale," where Merle and Buck when to High School.  (Buck moved here.)  I had church members who could tell you many stories about the CW life here.  It is interesting I mus admit.

A 90 year old who was in the Oildale UM Church when I was the pastor wrote a book on the life of Owens.  She fell and broke her hip.  He heard about that and went to her house and sat for six hours while she interviewed him from her bed.  Never much cared for the guy but my hat was off to him for that.  The book is now published.  Don't know the name but the author is Katheryn Burke, now deceased.

As for mandated, yes, for the most part.  The UMC remains an "Episcopalian" Church.  I am appointed to a church by the residing Bishop.  I can say no to a move, and did so two years ago.  But Aldersgate in Chico is one that I've said for many years that I'd go to if offered.  It was offered; what could/should I do?  Economically, it's a bad time to move, but I felt this was where God wants me to be in the future.  On Facebook Steve (Hobby) said all will work out, and I believe that, but I will admit to much "fear and trembling" at this time.

I will agree that Chico is a very nice area, and quite truthfully, if moving right now is scary, it will be much scarier in the near future, things are getting worse around this country. I hate to say it, but the reason I joined the Navy when I did was because of the problems in the early 80s, and quite truthfully, with this latest presidential election my best saving grace would have been the ability to remain in service, but I had met my tenure limit and they wouldn't let me extend further. I joked that it was a very bad economy and where I lived, 16percent unemployment, working three part time jobs just wasn't cutting it, and the problem of my getting out was that the economy was almost as bad as when I joined, so essentially I did a 26year hiatus to the economy.
Right now is probably about the best time to move out of the larger suburban areas and into a quieter area for safety if nothing else, I would love to get out of this 4.5 million person trap I am in, especially if things get as bad as I think they will get. I would personally hate to make the same move a year or more down the road to try to get out of the mess things are heading towards.

Met with Gary Steward of Steward Reality tonight. Our house will be officially listed tomorrow for $149,900. Sure would like more but the market is simply not there. As it is, Frances and I have decided to rent instead of taking a big loss. So, the listing is a "toe in the water." We're in God's hand, for sure!

The market in some areas of the country is 1/2 what it was, my Mom's
house in FL is listed for  literally 1/2 of what is was just 4
years ago. A good time to buy, but also smart to rent right now.

I follow RE pretty closely since we invest in RE more than in the stock
market, and my feeling is it will be 5-10 yrs before values recover to
any extent in areas where it's declined precipitously, it will be a
very slow climb back. We lucked out in that the places our properties
are have not gone down and VT has actually appreciated a fair amount.
Plus when tenants pay mortgages off and you can depreciate its a good
deal period.  I think you can take your time before buying again with little risk.

Moving
and change is always scary, but also opportunity for growth. I haven't
regretted any of the moves we've made... MD > PA > VT >
NY.  But I want to be back to the country soon, and always want to
be in Vermont in the summertime.

I hate present day "Country" too, but I do like the really old stuff,
along with just about everything else: classical, blues, jazz,
bluegrass, Motown...everything  except rap (I've always said the
C  in rap is silent).

Assume the Green Hornet will be going with you, no doubt? The parishoners need to see your wild N crazy side!

It would be that and more in Sacramento, and about $800,000 in LA.  Bakersfield is the last affordable (cheap) place in Cal.  There are also more forclosures in Kern County than in any other County in the Country. That is also hurting us; homes are going for DIRT here.
