(No excess noise exposure was found when driving a convertible with the top up, researchers noted.)

Well, at least one of them was smart.

Actually, my car is noiser with the top up - especailly in a hard wind!!!  I know this much, you can't hear squat in the back seat with the top down - I rode there once.

Is that why Frances and the kids always like to ride in the back seat, cause they can't hear a thing?

""In light of the results of this study, we are recommending that drivers be advised to drive with the top closed when traveling for extended periods of time at speeds exceeding [55 mph]," the researchers concluded in a news release."

I would guess they don't know why we buy convertibles in the first place. And what's next, riding a motorcycle over 55 for extended periods without a helmet is a problem too??

One year I drove from Northern NJ to Hershey, PA for the AACA swap meet in my Dakota Convertible pickup with the top down the entire 2 1/2 hours (because my friend wasn't gonna smoke in my new truck all closed up!)....we were wind burnt and partially deaf after that....but there were no lasting effects....
