Help me out here
« on: January 09, 2011, 04:01:11 PM »

As you know, I am up to my elbows in projects
I was going to put the 65 engine in the 65 and take the 62 engine out.  Then install that in the New Yorker, after working over the 62 motor with heads and so on.

Other than year correct, do you think it matters?  I could take this motor down, have the crank cleaned and new set of bearings, New set of rings and drop this 65 in.

What do you think?

If a resale is planned down the road,it may help the value  and integrity of the cars.
People appreciate the care taken to make sure things are correct.
Obviously,  you wanted to have the correct date motors in the cars.
On theother side of the coin, the NOM motors are long gone.
So to save time do what you think of doing and make sure the engines appear correct for the model years.

Although most people wouldn't know the difference, I know it is a lot of work to do a swap like this, the person looking for the correct engine and all will know the difference. Most people don't go with the, I have the original engine if we want to swap it in after the sale, they prefer to have it running and driving correctly and not risk damaging and paint scraping after the purchase.

Question is, are you going to assemble and sell, or personally enjoy in your own collection?

This answer would answer your own question as to what to do.

I forgot to mention the 65 was originally a 383 car.  I put the 413 in because that is what I had

I hope to do both.  I think the 65, 68, and 300H will get flipped.  Polaraco and the New Yorker are going to be the final cars.  But that's a way down the road yet.

I'd put the 413 in the '65 300.

I agree with Dana...keep the dated motors in the respectively dated cars.  I know it's easier to do what you have suggested, but if it were me and I was looking at the car I know I'd prefer the correct dated motor.  It's a small detail, but sometimes it's the little details that make the difference.

Really?  Ya think?  I can't get the 65 out now anyway.  Late April  I'll have this motpr to just drop in.  We'll ahve to do some magic on the other motor.  Have to change the heads.  If I just get it dropped into the 62, I am good to go.

I'll be going on a 6000 mile trip somewhere around there too.  Of course, I want to meet Chris, and Snotty is crying that I wasn't going to run over there.  Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Pheonix and home.  If I had a brain and the money, I'd take the 300 H and abandon it at Chrises to be finished.  Less the milk crates.  LOL
