Engine/Trans Swap Question
« on: December 28, 2010, 01:03:21 PM »

Will the engine and trans (318/904) from a '79 LeBaron swap to a '66 Fury (original 318 car)?

If the 66 fury had a 727 there will be a difference in the rear tranny mount and driveshaft length..

Thanks.
How can you tell the difference between a 904 and a 727?  What was the first year for the 904?

That Labaron may have a lock up converter which can be a good thing.  Cut the RPMs while cruising by 150.

If you are doing a Plymouth, the drive shaft from a Dodge or Chrysler, same year, same doors will soklve the problem.  The 904 is 2" shorter than the 727.  But the wheel base on the dodge is 2" longer.  It works!

When I put the 518 in Polaraco, it was 2" longer than the 727!  So I used a drive shaft from a 71 4 door Fury and it was a perfect fit.

check the wheel bases.  Dodge is usually 2" longer.  I meant to say that before

Also wasn't 67 the first year for the LA 318?  Not sure what that
means difference wise from the old wide block 318 as far as swaps go...

1964 for the 273 and 1967 for the LA 318. But for some reason I think the 1966 was the first year for the 273 in a C body.

The 318 poly mounts should work just fine.  Just make sure you have the 318 mounts from the 66, and they should bolt directly to the LA.
