Emergency brake cable for 70 300
« on: December 14, 2010, 04:39:34 PM »

My emergency brake cable snapped  on my 70 300 Hurst when I pushed the pedal too hard.   Snotty says somebody sells new ones.   Any suggestions on obtaining a new one and installing it would be welcome.

cook up a plate of shrimp.  The oder will attract a pair of hands.  You're too far away for me.

There are four cables.  Which one?

There's one on each rear wheel, a long bare sucker running around under the floor connecting the two rears, to a front one that goes to the pedal.  I have a source here, and pretty inexpensive

I think it's the main cable going to the collector on the back, under the car.
Steve Fogel, Kirk at Cole's Wheel and Brake can take care of that for you real fast.  I'm supposed to take the Grem to him for a similar repair, only the 8.75 under it has no cables.  Eeek!  He's a good shop that Big Chris recommends for under-car stuff.  He rebuilt the front-end of the Neon when it was wrecked two years ago.

OK, can you do that for the Gremiln?  It is the stock E-brake cable.  What I need to know is which 8.75 cables to get for each side of the axle to link them up to that cable?  I am running Mopar brake plates - the entier rear axle is Mopar from an A Body.

What  make and year of A body was the axle from,Snotty??
Do you need the czbles to meet in the middle or to one side of the left rear frame rail--like a C??
There was a change up  in 1971 when disc brakes, and bigger rear drum brakes came into play on the A bodies. Also, the Scamp,Duster, and Valiants all had different wheelbases that affected cable length..

I do not know, and I think that's why we ended up with the wrong length axles.  I can measure it and tell you that, but all idintifying marks/tabs were gone.

The AMC cable is on the Driver's side like a C.  The original e-brake cables were also like a C in that they were two different lengths.  This is why the car still does not have them - I don't know which lengths to get.  I do know the rear brake drums are not the small 9" ones.  Whether they are 10 or 11" I do not remember.

I appreciate your help!!
