Crappy day....
« on: November 12, 2010, 05:54:50 PM »

...well at least for my wife....she got let go from her job today!!
Working as a legal secretary at the largest law firm in our area. No
warning at all.  So things are going to be tight here for a while.
Going from a two income household to a single is going to a big change.

So working on the cars is going to have to take a back seat for a while.

I feel for you.  It's very difficult to land a new job these days down here in the US.  I can't imagine it's much better up there.

Thanks guys!  She's a little depressed right now, but sure something will come along...eventually.  Until then we just need to be smart with our money.

We purposely bought our house in a price range we could afford on "One" income....with the thought that if anything was to happen down the road....well just in case happened.

Just have to cut back on all the bells and whistles we've been accustomed to.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I took a 50percent pay cut when I retired, am comfortable enough if I slow down on a few things, figure there are others out there that need the money more than I need a second income even with my age and experience level. One more cinch on the belt and one or two less movies a month and everything is just about the same, no big deal.  I do hope the best for the wife and finding another job, as going from working to no work with no warning is probably the toughest thing to take. I would hope that the firm would put in a good recommendation as a follow-on for employment.

Sorry to hear that Brian.
On the bright side with her qualifiactions, maybe she can try for a Municipal or Provincial Court position?? Certainly she can ask her contacts on the inside to put in a good word or help get her foot in the door at least.

Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement guys!!

They really didn't want to let her go, but the law firm is presently sitting on several million dollars in receivables (Unpaid bills) and they had start cutting costs.  Since she was "technically" part time, and the only part time employee, she was the first to go.

They have given her great references and a decent severance package.  And have offered her a position down the road when things turn around.
