Since I'm getting back into drag racing next year we decided it's time for a truck again.

We are thinking about a Ram Quad Cab. Our budget is around $10 000 so i think I will be getting one with about 80K to 100K miles..

Any suggestion on engine tranny combination to look for . We would like at least 20 mpg and be able to tow a car trailer. It has to have a Quad cab as I have to have room for the brats in the back.

Who?  Me?

5.9 engine.  Lots of performance stuff available for them.  Look for a 98 to 2000 1500 or 2500 Ram.  The bottoms of the front doors rot, so check them out before buying.  Brake lines rot on plow trucks, that's about it.  Generally the 2nd gen trucks are real nice and that back door is handy on the extended cabs.  The 5.9 isn't too good on gas, but with some mods, like I did, you can get some good mileage.  The ODP2 computer also has allot more optins available

Shaddap you.  You have a 4ord PU.  Peeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

16 is on a good day on a 5.9.  That's 5.2 MPG.  5.9's were luck to see 14 actually.  Don't know what. . they didn't have to work as hard as a 5.2.

You can build up a 5.2 to run like a 5.9 too.  But it runs out of steam at 3500.
