This is just what the car needed-a good run on the highway.
I babied it for a good while and began to feel better as the miles went by.
Gas guage does not work.
Speedo is reading 10 MPH faster than actual speed...

This car is a real sweetheart.Drives nice down the road, has plenty of pulling power.I am impressed how well a 318 works with a manual trans.First good for 10-15 MPH,2nd good for 25-30,and then 3rd.The carb needs work, the accelerator pump is dried out so I have to finesse it when shifting.
One happy wagon owner...

6:30
We landed in Belleville where Doug lives and where Ray parked his car.
As Ray left to go home I needed Doug to bring the 300 back to kingston.
It was suppertime so we ate .
Doug had to go to the store to buy his wife cigarettes before we hit the road again.
We left at 7:15.....

8:03
The waygun has landed in my driveway!! despite the excitement, the car did well once on the highway and  did not break down.

I got home in the nick of time to drive my wife to her nightshift .
Parked the wagon and sat down for 30 minutes, then we piled back into the 300.
Dropped her off at 8:45 and hit the 401 West to Belleville
My day is not done yet--I still have to drive Doug back to his house!!
Dropped off Doug at 9:30.
Turned around and drove back home.
Got home at 10:20
I was pooped..

I am happy with the car.
Everything comes in threes.
I am glad they all came before we hit the road
1-wrong rim
2-The visit to the Motor Vehicle Registration Office of hell.
3- The u-joint.
I am still re-learning myself to drive a standard--its been a while.
plus I am still getting to know the car's characteristics..
The first thing to get done is installing duals.
Upgrade the electrical a bit, replace the punky rad and heater hoses.and freshen her up inside and out.Oh..and wiper blades and an oil change, tune up.
I am sure things will pop up and things will break as I keep driving it.
With no radio in the car,Doug kept singing the Brady Bunch theme song
on the way home...now I cant get that damn song out of my head!!
I will keep y'all posted.

That is a damn fine car!!  same color inside and out as my old 73
Custom Sub 9 pass, it's big brother. How on earth did that car survive
like that?  In NY the bottom 12" would be gone.

Nice WAYGUN Lea!! WOW I likey!! A LOT! Back in the day....My Dad had a 72 Satellite and my sister/bro-in-law had a 73 Satellite (not wagons -4 door sedans) and they were both excellent cars. My Dad passed the 72 to me and it became my second car. Poor thing...took a lickin' and kept on tickin'...as I was a real head case (moron) back then... Anyways, thanks for the great trip review...as always, your documentation skills are fabulous. I almost feel like I went on the trip with ya's... Best wishes with your new ride. She's beautiful...Me too...I just can't believe she's so well preserved. That's unheard of 'round these parts...

Congrats!

Gald you got the wagon home safely...what a heck of a day though!!  But
you had good times, with good friends, and it revolved around an old
car...couldn't ask for better.

She's a beauty and I enjoyed the the read, as FuryFever said...I felt like I was along on the trip.

Thanks everybody!
I put over 200 miles on the car since she leftt Toronto in two days.
it took Bill THREE years to put that much on the waygun!!
Typical of a car that did a lot of sitting, something is guaranteed to happen.
Monday I drover her to work aand all is fine.End of day came and waming up the 'teen I smelled raw gas.
No leaks under neath..HHmm.
So I drove home with no problem.
But I still smell gas.
It was raining so I couldd not determne any leaks outside.
Just to be sure,I park Waygun in the garage where the floor is dry.
I have supper and go into the garage..I smell gas.
I check the carburetor,lines,fuel filter..No leaks..WTF?
I run the engine..
BINGO!
Fuel pump is squirting out gas from the little hole in the body towards the exhaust manifold area.
I ordered a new pump and we knew the hoses were in poor shape,so I ordered new hoses the same time.
I did not drive her yesterday just to be safe.
So,last night after work I did the repairs.
I also did the ammeter bypass while I was at it,and installed my H4 headlamps I kept from my NYer,and replace the fuel filter and rotten rubber fuel line from the frame to fuel pump.

Today,I am just going to drive it.I have a good working spare 2bbl cArb I will clean up during my luch break. The carb on the engine has a wicked flat spot from a dried out accelerator pump and is getting worse.Carb swap tonight.

Tomorrow....DUAL EXHAUST!
