Finally some F3 progress

Sold my 56 Packard to this old dude in PA, freeing up a little cash
after some Home Depot/Lowes bills were paid down... so, I'm having all
the freeze plugs, seals, etc redone on the current 101k mile 318 by a
guy I trust ( a lift makes the difference), to get her up and running
for
now.  The  low mile (18k) 318 I'm getting (this month maybe?)
from Long Island will go in later on, after I go over it with a fine
tooth comb before it gets dropped in.  Once up and running, a
buddy of mine who runs the BOCES Vo-Tech body shop class will do a new
paint job... I know, I know it won't be perfect, but the price is right
and be dumb to put big $$ in a car worth only maybe 4000 when done...
at least it will  look a whole lot better tha it does!  I've
got the minor trunk rust dealt with (thanks to Chris in AZ) too. When I
get her back, then put the interior back together, then comes fixing
the typical '71 wiring issues... a whole different headache to deal
with!

That's funny you mention BOCES Auto Body. I took two years of Auto Body at BOCES in Yorktown NY in high school. 38 years later I'm still doing it.

For those non Noo Yawka's:  BOCES is Board Of Cooperative
Educational Services,  they run all the Voc-Tech programs in NY,
along with other stuff, and evey county/town has BOCES... I lucked out
as my son has a friend who works there and knows the body shop class
teacher, who I've gotten to know too!  They'll prep and paint the
car for the cost (wholesale) of materials, which should run about $300
total.  They're doing my 70 Nova this fall too.

Steve, it's a well kept secret, I knew about it because I taught at 2
different Voc-Techs in Baltimore when I taught Computer
Programming/Data Processing for a few years in the early 80s... they
had the same kind of deal, but they don't publicize it because they'd
be overwhelmed. They need cars for Body Repair class students to learn
on, bear in mind they are graded, so tend to do good work, all of which
is directly supervised by the Body Repair teacher, who themselves had
to work in the body repair industry for at least 10 years and get
teaching certification in their subject. Realize it's not high end
restoration shop work,  the quality of the work is not show, 
but tends to be pretty good nonetheless, equivalent to your local
insurance crash shop, and at a price that can't be beat. BOCES did my
uncle's 39 Olds 20+ years ago and it still looks pretty good. You can
phone your local Voc-Tech there in Joisey and ask to speak to the
teacher directly, schmooze him a bit, get to know him, and he may be
able to put you in their queue... do it early in the school year, like
now, as any available slots tend to fill up fast.

PS: you might curry some favor by offering to donate, say, some old
fenders they can practice on, or sheet metal for patches, or something
else lying around they could use... you never know....

Coming soon to a pooter near you... actually it doesn't look any
different outside from pics last fall,  I already posted some of the
trunk patching with the AZ metal I got from Chris a while back. It WILL look
different after a visit to BOCES this fall.

Just call your local or any Vo-Tech close by and talk direct to the teacher.
