Radio wires - what's going on, here?

I'm looking to replace my mouse-pee damaged 8-track on my 1979 vintage Chrysler and this NOS replacement looks tempting:

However, the description says "The wiring connectors are a little different than original."

So here's a picture of the back of the unit:




I get the harness with the two power lines.  But what's up with the two other harnesses?  There should only be one harness with 5 wires coming out of it (4 speaker wires and 1 ground) not 2 harnesses.

So...uh...if I buy this unit how do I hook it up?  There only seem to be two lines (blue and black) coming out of the harness with the white tip.  Are those grounds?  I can count four lines coming out of the blue-tipped harness - maybe those are the F&R speakers.

Any thoughts?  Anyone have experience with this type of unit?

Your car currently has what is known as a common ground speaker system, i.e. one wire from unit to the speaker coil and the speaker coil itself is grounded to the car.  Common on Mopars until later years.  Aftermarket radios and later OEM radios use the conventional + and - paired wires to each speaker.

You might be right.  The whole point to buying something like the above unit is to not have to run/cut/splice new wires.  I just wan it to be "plug ' play.  15 min. and done.  If I have to run wires, I might as well just replace everything - head unit and speakers.  But I don't have the money for that, which is why I'm looking at a replacement 8 track for the short term

Actually, these '70s era radios have a F/R fader but for some reason it's labeled "Speaker" on the faceplate.  It's the collar knob on the Tuning button.  That unit I linked to was made by RCA and intended to be a direct replacement for the factory Mopar stereos.  I just can't understand why there's so many extra wires if it's supposed to be an OEM radio.

Shouldn't it be all set up to work on a circuit with a common ground?

I went through three radios from eBay, one of them supposedly NOS!!!
