Look at the inside lip, not the outer lips. You want the little raised edge inside to to towards the side that will hold the grease, just like a harmonic balancer front cover seal.

Picture A has the lip wrong, Picture B is correct. Should be a felt pad that is inside the inner lip if not mistaken, donut shaped about 3/16ths inch thick, but I could be mistaken on that one, due to age of the vehicle.
