It's been a long time..

...I can't remember where the flat sheetmetal piece goes in the valley--Front?? Back??
I had the engine apart for so long I forgot where it it goes..
I got my insulation and tin foil and this part stopped me in my tracks right before
I was about to bolt her down.
Any help is appreciated.

Goes at the front to hold the silencer pad inplace when the wind and air is blowing through and over the front of the engine.  Also it gives it a cleaner look then the foil pad under the intake.

I made a new pad with some tin foil and a few small pieces of regular glass insulation.

I want to install the insulation like the factory did.
Plus I omitted it in the New Yorker and it caused hot start problems from the fuel being boiled out of the float bowls

If you don't drive it in cold weather I would suggest the valley pan with the heat crossover blocked.. If you do don't buy the one with the little pieces you put in.. buy the one that doesn't have the holes punch out.. I got mine from Mancini Racing in Michigan. It's made by Felpro.

At the track I found a 10th.. but I don't know how much it would help on a street car other than keeping the fuel from boiling and less chance of vapour lock.. I'm going to add one to the Windsor since it only sees warm weather trips..

I am using a correct "301" casting 4bbl intake.
I checked the Mancini site and could not find the pan without the heat crossover

You're right, but I've never liked the look of the stuff sticking out from under the manifold.  I do suffer the fuel boiling problem and plan on using the plugged-off pan the next time I swap it.

Hey Lea, remember that 440 wasn't remanufactured like this motor is so it was bound to run hotter.

All Mopar big-blocks are "air gap" by design.  Just remove the insulation and  - viola' - air gap!
