If I heard a Gremlin idling like that next to me at a stop light, I'd certainly back down.

Bark is fiercer than it's bite.  LOL

If you had a regular C Body with a 440, you might keep up.  Gremlins aren't that light to begin with.

What does a Gremlin weight Scott?  3800?

Oh no, I have a regular C Body with a 440 - there's no comparison, this little Gremlin hauls balls!  With less than 1,000 miles on it we have not even given over half-throttle yet.  Even so, this car MOVES!

Don't know the weight but I'd guess that it's under 3 grand.  There's nothing to it.  Also, an AMC 401 weighs 200 pounds less than a Mopar big block.  We have the cubes but not the pounds!  Ha!

Saturday, May 22, 4:25 p.m., heading north on Manor Blvd., Bakersfield CA.  I'm in my 440 powered Newport, Jerry in his Gremlin.  We are side by side @45 MPH.  I dropped my car into 2nd and floored it.  Jerry stayed in 4th and touched his pedal a bit.  He steadilly pulled away from me.  I backed off at 80 and he was 4 car lengths in front of me (his car's length, not mine. )  When we got home I told him if he'd dropped that into 3rd he would have left me like I was standing still.  He's still a novice at a 4-speed.

I can't wait to see what this car will do at Famoso!

Jerry just looked up the curb weight of a '73 Gremlin.  2572 with a 232 6 banger in it.  So, add an additional 200 for the 401 and the T-10, as opposed to a 258 and T-14.

Love it...and a 401/4 gear to boot...what a hoot to drive!!

My brother used to jamb a done up ford 302 and toploader and 4.62 spooled rear, into comets and mavericks...they were a blast to drive.  That short wheel base makes them get hair in a hurry when you start getting all crossed up....Ahhh good times.

You bet!

You mentioned another car that has "come on" in recent years - the Maverick.  People have figured out that they are dirt cheap and you can stuff a good Ford small block in them and have a ball!  There is a Grabber on Hwy. 99 I see e very time I drive south coming from Fresno.  I keep telling myself to stop and talk with the owner!
