Absolutely a gorgeous day here today. Clear and sunny and probably a good 15* to 20*C in the sun (65*to 70*F).   Wife and daughters went out shopping, so I decided to give Ol' Patches a good cleaning inside and out.

Looks like you are going to have to bust out the lawnmower soon.

Nope...Never.  That thing is a show truck.  I drive mine everyday...so it would never, nor would I ever want it to, look that nice.

That is a gorgeous truck, don't get me wrong.  I love the color, and the no chrome theme on the body and trim.  But not my cup of tea.

Today was spring service time.  Air/oil/fuel filters and oil change, and grease the truck.

Also got a low mileage head from a 95/96 Ford F700 truck...supposed to be about 25K km's.  Truck was an insurance write off and parted out, and my friend got most of the engine parts for the P-Pump motor.  It had been sitting for a few years, I bartered for it.

Fresh after delivery...These heads are definitely a 2 man job to carry!

The underside looked worse then it was.  A little bit of time spent with a wire brush and then some 120 grit sand paper cleaned it up nicely.

I really like the air intake set-up.  It is a grid heater delete spacer and a 3" air inlet horn!

Thinking of adding the grid heater delete to the crewcab from around April to Sept, then swap the grid heaters back on for the cooler seasons.

Why not just leave it there and just disable it?

Just the actual heater mechanism within the housing cause a bit of an air restriction....so having an open plate could increase air flow, and perhaps grab me a little more in fuel economy?

As you know Steve...it's the accumulation of the little things that eventually help with the increase in fuel economy.

Well today I swapped in a NEW Napa Master Cylinder.  I was going to get one locally here in BC, but the best warranty I could find was a 1 year only!  Just across the boarder at the US Napa I could get a new unit with a lifetime warranty!  Seemed like a no brainer to me. ;)

Gave it a coat of paint, but as other s have found the lid leaked before I even got it on the truck. :(

Here you can see the reason for the leaking.  The old "Made in the USA" seal vs the new generic no name brand.

I cleaned up the old seal and installed it on the new cap and so far no leaks.

The other night I started obsessing over a Hydro boost conversion for my crewcab.  I then saw a craigslist ad for a 2000 cummins ram being parted out.  Several E-mails, and a phone call later had me over at the guys house pulling a hydro boost set-up!

Was a little disappointing that it was leaking out the back once I got it out and could inspect it..  So I wasn't going to take it, but he was willing to sell it at core charge value.  Figured I went 45 min out to his place I may as well return with something. ;)

Nice guy, he bought a nice 90 2wd 1st Gen with the insurance settlement from his 2000. We chatted diesel trucks for a bit before I headed out.

Now to see if I can find a reseal kit for this unit, and then a "How to" on how to Re/Re it.

Seems as though on the forum swap we lost a couple months worth of updates on the crewcab...here is the missing posts. ;)

June 10/2015

Today I gave Patches a good cleaning...inside and out. Noticed my E-brake pedal assembly had come loose AGAIN! This is the third time in just over a year. This time it got lock nuts and washers instead of the OEM hardware. And I greased the drive train as well.

Then pulled the skid plate off because it was rattling every time I hit a decent size bump. It was the center part that rests against the tranny cross member. It was worn through the paint to make shiny metal. I cleaned everything and then added some Neoprene/foam gasket material. Should quiet it up for a while.

I also swapped out my 93 LE tailgate since the latches were starting to fail and only the RH side was actually grabbing...barely. I swapped for one of my earlier tailgates. The center brushed aluminum trim panel was missing the "Dodge Ram" emblem, so there were 3 holes visible.

So I dug through my box of misc ram emblems and made this up. I had a set of "Ram 150" emblems, so I cut off the 150. And the "Cummins Turbo Diesel" was cut off a junk set of "Power Ram 250/cummins turbo diesel" emblems. A little black paint along the edges where they were trimmed, and some 3M trim tape and voila!

July 05/2015

Did some AC diagnosis today. Wanted to see if the AC would blow cooler with no Power Stroke Intercooler in front of the condenser. So I pulled the front of the truck apart, then stuffed an old fan in front to help blow air across the condenser.

It was 37*C (approx 105*F) and with no IC in the front I was seeing about 57*F from the vents. After reassembly I ran the truck again and the temps jumped up to about 65*F.

So clearly the Intercooler is causing the efficiency of the system to drop.

Only problem I ran into was one of my intercooler boot clamps snapped.

Thankfully I had a spare big one from ??? That worked as a replacement.
