But man is that one heavy axle!  Took 3 of us to move it around.  But it should have no problem holding up the increased HP and Torque the motor should be making in the next little while.

The old D60 in there now was in serviceable shape when I pulled it apart.  But the axle shafts themselves were scaly rust, and the axle tubes were almost as bad.  Took a lot of cleaning to get things in OK shape.  But I question the integrity, and strength of the axle shafts since they are pretty pitted.  I figure it's only a matter of time before one of them decided to twist into two in a high torque situation.

Are you planning on 0 to 60 in 1 second or something?  Or are you going to drive it like an old fart?

Oh I drive like you are Steve......

But I'd rather have a rear end that was designated for "Cummins" use, then a gas unit.  Just peace of mind for me.

It was a Dana 60 rear end, right? I have seen less than 2 destroyed Dana 60 rear ends in my life. One was because the house it was towing caught fire, the other one kept going through axle bearings after it was used for logging. Well, not really logging, it was turned into an 8 ft by 10 ft stakebed to hold three cords of wood, and the guy would load it up once a day, drive it down the mountain, and to be able to cut a mile off the logging road, jump a canyon, well, kind of. More like a gentle piledrive off the ledge of about three feet into a rock riverbed, then crawl over the other side. Did it for seven months, made a lot of money, replaced three grilles, two radiators and ten repairs each, and each piece of glass in the truck at least once. Other than that, two wheel bearings was the only thing that went bad in it, so I would think they were strong enough, even if they aren't Cummins rated.

Well regardless of the potential strength of the Dana 60...it's getting changed. ;)

Well then I'll toss it up on the local craigslist and hopefully get a couple hundred for it.

Should be able to get what you paid for the other one without a problem, make it an even cost swap.

Well a fellow over on the Cummins forum I frequent made up some "FARGO" lettering for his crewcab conversion.  I had been thinking about doing the same thing so was thrilled when I saw what he did.  I contacted him, and through a fluke of circumstance he actually flew into my home town from Saskatchewan!!  We met up briefly and I bought a couple sets off him for my truck.

Anyway we finally had a few nice days so I go the decals on....whatcha think?

Little back story...

My truck box on old RAE is in nice rust free shape..just the inside is
beat.  The floor is as wavy as the ocean, and I have tow big holes cut
in the floor from the stacks that were in there.  As well as some cracks
and damage to the inside sides of the box.  Outside the pass. side has
the typical crunch...from what I can't say but it's been mudded over and
looks OK but still bothers me.

Anyway I have been keeping my eyes open for a new'er box, even looked at
a couple locally.  One was no better then what was on my truck and the
guy wanted $400, He also had a nice mint one for $800....little too much
 for me.

Well one night a couple months ago I was cruising the west coast
craigslists and came across a listing for a 80-93 nice clean, straight
rust free box.  It was in Portland OR though.  Luckily I have a couple
friends who live just outside Portland.  A phone call, some texting with
the def seller, some paypal-ing and my friends had the box at their
house.

Well last week I decided that Saturday I would get up early and drive down to Portland OR to pick up my "new to me" long box.  Crossed the Canada/US border at 5:45am and was in Portland by 12pm.  Visited for a few hours, then loaded up the box and got on my way.  Left Oregon at 3:30pm and crossed the border into Canada at 10pm.

I had thought through the whole loading the box in the back of my truck and eventually came up with this...

Cut up some 2x2's to fit in the bed stake pockets....then we would flip the box upside down and onto the stakes.

Then a couple of clamps on the inside.

And then 2 ratchet straps over the front, and back.

Truck performed well. Drove 750+ miles and burned about 27 Gallons of fuel...that's about 28 mpg!!

Hey, you can still get a sheet of plywood in between the wheel wells, and that is alway a plus. Good deal, didn't realize truck beds were quite that expensive. I know any of them are hard to find without the rest of the truck being attached to them, good find.
