Hot Rod Magazine sucks!!!111!!
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:32:57 PM »

I'm sure that isn't news to many of you here though, but let me share with y'all what lite a fire under me to post this.

Over on Moparts there is a post in the General section by a member about having his artwork in the May '10 edition, on page 58 http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=5867226&page=0&vc=1#Post5867226

Now, in addition to that there is a snippet about the Imps used for the upcoming Green Hornet flic that will be out this December, with pics of a row of Black Beautie'd Imps in a shot, and there is info on them and the film.

Here's the part
"To ensure reliability and performance, most of the
Imperials had their 413 lumps pulled in favor of Chevy big-block crate
engines".

<>

I know it's not on the direction of the writer or Hot Rod Magazine that the engines were yanked, BUT, putting in writing that verbiage infers the engines were not reliable (OK, I COULD see that if the car had sat for 30 years) AND not up to par on performance (ditto if car sat for xx years)??

Don't be harsh.  There are some brilliant technical minds over there.  You can never have enough resources or too much knowledge.

Like, why didn't you tell me to back off on the side thrust beariings first...

As sad as that is, you have to remember that a movie company is probably employing a belly button V8 chey guy as the mechanic.

And you can't deny that the money spent on a crate chevy motor is probably a lot less then a crate 440.  It all boils down to dollars and cents, plus Chevrolet probably "Donated" the motors, so they could eventually end up with a bit of free publicity.

All I see is a buch of Imperials going to waste.  But wait!  They'll all be avaiable at an upcomming BJ or Ebay auction soon!  Set your money aside now!!!  Starting bid - 45 grand.  After, we're talking "movie cars" now.

All they care about is that they run well while they destroy them... I'm
a lot more pissed at the wanton destruction of 29 IMPERIALS for this
STUPID FRICKIN FILM!!!! 29 cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More like 29 fewer left.
Just remember, roughly the same number of 57/58 Plymouth's were destroyed in the making of Christine.
Ditto the making of the Dukes of Hazzard movie.
The Chargers were well documented under the watchfull eye of Rob Wolfe of MCG and his "Mullet Mob".
The cost of doing business in Hollywood.
At least in the original Vanishing Point they were smart enough to destroy a Cramaro at the end of the movie instead of a Challenger.
