Brian

A while back you changed your rear bushing.

Refresh my memory as to why you did that.  I'll tell you after that.

Thanks in advance.

The rear bushing in my tailshaft?

I decided to do this because the original 2 piece drive shaft, that was causing a lot of my vibration issues, was now replaced with a new solid one piece unit.

I drove the car and was still sensing a small vibration similar to before.  So I figured with all that horrible shaking that had been going on that the rear tailshaft bushing may have taken a beating.

I have noticed since the replacement of the rear bushing things are better, but I still have a bit of a shake at some speeds.  I now think it may be my tires.

So whatcha doin der Steve.....

That's what I thought

I have a vibration similar to what you described in Polaraco and the rear seal has a slight drip.  I messed with drive shafts yesterday. . . The best one I had was about 1 1/2" longer than the one in the car.  But I couldn't get it in because the shaft wouldn't travel far enough forward.  Well that's no good.

So I either have a worn yoke or a bad bushing.  I'm not sure this has a bushing in it.  I have to dig up the manual and check it out.  I'm pretty sure it must have a bushing in it.

All this time, I thought the shaft was a tad too short.  That can cause it too.  But as it turns out, I was reminded when I pulled the drive shaft, the spline sticks out of the umbrella seal by another inch.

Whatsamattaru?  Don't like to be stalked?  Did you go to Thortons for dinner???

The tailshaft bushing is an easy one to remove and replace. To check, stick the yoke in the end of the tranny and if you have a plain yoke without the driveline on it, you can use it to determine how much slop there is much easier. If it wiggles, it's bad. Simply unbolt the tailshaft and pull it off (pull out the speedo gear first, that little plate under the tranny mount with two phillips screws in it allows access to the outside snap ring for the rear bearing lock), undo the bolts, pull backwards. The cool thing is, the bearing is about two inches tall and has a split in it, so it is easy to tap it out with the notch and slice, easy to press in (or tap in, not a lot of pressure with the split in it, just a little bit much for even myself to push in by hand). You can use the yoke and something flat so the bearing doesn't sit against the Ujoint surface and tap it in that way, puts something inside the shell of the bearing when pushing it in if you want.

Ummm.... may be a dumb question but I never drobe up in Canada...
Why is your trailer, which looks very short (40' ?),  a tri-axle?  How much weight are you hauling?  I mean, jeeze, how much can a case of styrofoam  oz. cups weigh?  LOL

the extra weight comes from all the cops that are hanging off the rear trying to get in

Stan...the trailer there is one of our A-box's, 32 feet, with the axles slid under so we have access to our electric/hyd lift gates for deliveries.

We run Super B trailers, not for the weight but for the capacity.  The most you can get in a 53' trailer is like 26 skids.  Between the A (16 skids) and B (13 skids) box we can carry 29 skids.
