Towing Capacity....
« Reply #15 on: January 22, 2010, 09:53:48 PM »

Scott...Thank you for taking the time to look that up for me...appreciate it.

Steve...I know I would technically be OK to haul it but I just don't like to tempt fate.  And especially with me being a trucker I know how fickle the DOT/CVSE officers can be.

I spoke with a DOT/CVSE officer today on my way through the scale, he didn't have any official numbers but he told me his 94 dodge ram 4x4 cummins 3/4 ton had a GCVWR of 18-20,000 lbs.   He asked what my truck was and he figured it would be good to 16-18,000 lbs??

Bit of a contradiction between what the "official" numbers are and what the DOT/CVSE say it's good for.

Guess more research is in order.

That was my point earlier Brian.  Most truck can pull much more than they are rated for.  Whether one would want to do so is another question.  In your case in Canada you're also talking about what is legal, as you said earlier.
