Weird parts ordering experience

Check Carquest.  WTF?? No online catalog!
Anyway, I called them.  They could order it (ONE left in warehouse!).
I just thought it was strange that they don't have a parts website.

You can do what my Dad often did - make your own!

He always had gasket material on hand.  It came in handy many times.

Parts chimps...pay them peanuts, you get monkeys.
Experience is everything in the parts business.
I also recognize today's kids need to start somehwere.
Without understanding cars and typically good computer skill but nooo automotive background most kids behind the counter at your big chain parts jobber is SOL.
Not to mention most do not stay in the business which results in a high turnover in staff.
The internet is a great tool but it does not have all the information. That's where the old parts catalogues kick in.
If you are lucky an old number can be cross referenced or has been superceded by a new number that "works".
Independent parts stores tend to have more loyal and better trained employees.

Raymond has been in business sooo long that he makes Steve pick his own parts,LOL!!
