Stanley, you lost the coupon but want the store to give you the price?  Did you ever work in retail?  That's not how it's done.  If you want the price you gotta have the coupon....

(I worked for Sears for 4 years.)

I agree.
But most importantly, it didn't hurt to inquire.  Right?
But, how about a simple friggan "I'm sorry but w/o the coupon we cannot honor the price."?
Is that so  %^&$ hard?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Uh... yeah!  I bought a book at B&N last night.  It was marked 20% off.  But since I had printed a coupon via the Internet for an additional 30%, I got the book for half-price.  Where's the problem?

The math.
If the min. wage clerk at theregister had actualy been awake in high school, it should have been 20% off the retail price, THEN, 30% off the discounted price.

Example:  $30.00 book.

$30.00 - 20% = $24.00.  Then, $24.00 - 30% = $16.80
$30.00 - 50% = $15.00.
You owe the collection plate $1.80 next Sunday....

Except the coupon - given to B&N memebrs - is explicit in its instructions; the 30% is to be added to any additional discounts for a total.  50% of the original price is correct.  So is your math, but your beginnign point is incorrect.
My question - "where's the problem" - is not about math or who works at a store counter.  My question is this: why the apparent argument with coupons and discounts?  I fail to see the problem boys.  Both have existed my entire life, and I'm 51.  My Mom used coupons, my wife uses them, my daughter, and obviously I do.
Also, I've had lousy service from people everywhere, regardless of their place of birth.  It's clear we are on different pages here so I think I'll stop commenting on this thread.
