60 Fury Vert ROAD TRIP
« on: November 24, 2009, 05:38:39 PM »

I am going to Greensboro Friday to get this little Gem.  Guy is paying me to go get it.  He couldn't find anyone who would do a dedicated trailer.  Car looks the same as this pic now.  There's a whole barn full of Mopars.  Of coarse the Camera will be in hand.  Pictures on Sunday

He's a friend of a friend.  Turns out we know each other, sorta.  He needed a rim for his car and I gave him one through the grapevine.  I met him at some cruise ins and we never put the peaces together.  Small world.  It's a $$ trip + expenses.  19 hours round trip, door to door.  As long as they have good blatters anyway. .  .  I can do the whole trip one way without stopping.  My truck gets super fuel economy even with the wagon, so I can do the 588 miles on one tank with 5 gallons to spare.  Maybe more with the recent changes I did.

I understand the barn is just loaded with running treasures.  He has a 60 Plymouth Sports Fury like this one.  A 2 Door hard top.  A friend of his wants to buy it so I'll have a truck full of old men going down.  I'll see what else he has.

That fury has a 413 in it.  It's not the original motor, but who cares.  Most people wouldn't know anyway.

Not looking forward to dragging that thing over the Ozarks.

I think I may know this guy.  Check to see if there's a 69 2 door and an 880 4 speed in that barn.

60 Plym is to me the most garish FL'er, but a rare rare 'vert nonetheless.

If yer going to Greensboro NC, you won't be going to the Ozarks from
NJ... my Dad lived in G-boro there for 6 yrs, it's just W of Raleigh -
Durham. Have a good trip and get lots 'o pix!

I'm the guy who bought this boat. I'm still checking for soft spots on my cranium.

The car wasn't cheap, but its all there, straight, and totally rust free.

I'm looking for the Aero(Square) steering wheel for this baby, if somebody knows where one's hiding

I've seen the best intentions go south because they  weren't  rust-free..
If there's no rust, everything else is a piece o'cake.

Congratulations.

It is rust free.  That I have to give it. It is very straight and all the chrome and trim is very nice.  It will need very little chrome work.

I was very disappointed, and I am sure Steve was too, to see it wasn't even rinsed off initially.  Then when I finally got into it, I discovered all sorts of little things that pissed me off.  It's all fixable, but I feel like we may as well pull it all apart and start over.

Nice car, great find, enjoy!!  Rust free: you're ahead of the game for sure.

Steve - what about the other alleged cars in that barn??

The excitement went out of my sails when he started quoting prices.

There was a 59 Fury 2 dr. hdtp for 25K. It had an incorrect 413 with 2 4's inline. The interior was a cherry re-do. Someone had their way with some other parts that didn't make it worth the asking price. Had 3 small rust issues on the belly.

Another chestnut was a 60 Phenox D-500 with 361, with crossover. This too had an original re-do interior. we didn't see it up on the rack so we don't know the condition of rustiness. This one also at 25K

He had a 38 dodge pickup that someone started with original running gear and interior. Another bad backyard paint job, but otherwise very straight and rust free for 7K. And then the 34 Airflow sedan which was apart. I think he wanted 5k for that.

His prices are high, but most are rust free southern cars.
