B/RB water pump questions
« on: October 23, 2009, 06:46:36 PM »

I have to replace the BoaB's water pump.
Eons ago,a good friend gave me a pump that was used only for a very short time.(he installed the aluminum pump/housing)
It fits my housing, but it looks different.
I am not sure if it is for an AC car or not.
Should I chance using it?
Take a look at the pics and see what you think.
The original is on the left, replacement on the right..

My vote, I'm thinkin' no, hoss.  Doesn't look right to me, like the newer one is for a non- heavy duty cooling car.

Stop yur whining and just mount it... ;)

The original one is a pump used on cars with air, the new one is a stock pump.
Effective cooling might be slightly less since the vanes are a tad smaller but since you're living in permafrost-territory you won't notice a thing... :)

Use it.  If I understand the situation correctly, the A/C cars, like you said, did get the higher volume water pump, BUT, both of them went into the same water pump housing.  So why NOT use it?  I would regardless of whether the car had A/C or not.

That's funny...The BoaB is a factory non-air car.Based on the condition of the pump and casting date on it it has never been replaced.
I will be using the freebie pump if I cannot find a "correct" looking pump.
Besides,I will be using the seven blade fan,26" rad and fan shroud.

Your old one almost looks like it goes to a '65 or '66 model. The new one is the stock replacement pump you can get almost anywhere. It has a much larger diameter bearing for increased durability.

I am more worried about cooling capacity more than show points.
I am my own worst critic..
More like scoring with Pebbles on the beach..
