Which head gasket ???
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:44:36 PM »

Ok. . this is what I am building

I am going to take a 79 360 and plop a set of 86 318 heads on it.

I have no plans to remove the pistons, which are low compression.  But I am hoping the closed chamber heads from the 318 will bring it back up.  The 79 360 is 8.0:1 and the 86 318 is 9:1 with flat pistons. (I think. . I forget)  This combo should give me probably around a 9.2 to 1 which is good enough.

The Bore on the 360 is 4.00" and the 318 is 3.91.

Which head gasket should I use?  A delemma.

I'm thinking the 360 gaskets with a set of 318 intake gaskets

Yeah,, you need the 360 head gaskets.  Don't want the Gasket hanging over in the bore.

318 Intake is correct too for those heads.

I'd just use the good Ole' Fel Pro Blue Permatorque's.

I've got the Cometic's on the Elephant but sure wouldn't use them on a normal build like that.  My SB stroker just has the Fel Pro's on it too.

I keep telling you it wasn't the gasket leaking. . It was a couple of bad cylinders and a warped deck

They're good but if you don't have the right finish on the block deck & head surface they WILL have leak problems.    We planned the Hemi build with the Cometics in mind & they have'nt leaked any.

For what it's worth,  Fel-Pro also has an MLS gasket int heir listings too & a lot cheaper.

Over the years we've done a lot with just the Blue Permatorque's & never had a failure,  with no special block prep.    Even have an EDDY headed 318 that has them & no issues.
