Great story about the Imperial, I saw one of those in a junk yard I went to last year(this yard was closing and trying to sell it rusted junk), rusting away quietly even still had both rear pedistal brake light assy.

There's a nice story about a '55 Imperial 'vert in the recent issu of Hemmings Classic Cars.  And yes, they acknowledge that ther were no Imperial ragtops until '57.  Check out the article - beautiful car!
 
(Hint - it was a New Yorker that was modified by Chrysler for the retired former-President of the company.)

almost bought a 63 imp in 1999 for 500 bucks, pops said no... alas
