I was going to say drive shaft.  But the turning hard. . . .
 
How is the trans mount?  What condition is the U-Joints in.  A binding U-Joint may make it hard to turn. 
 
Drop the shaft and see if it's still hard to turn.  I am wondering if you have a bad bearing somewhere.  Maybe the tail shaft of the trans.  If the bushing is bad in the trans, even a new seal will leak a bit.
 
An open rear . . .the axle on the oposite side usually turns in reverse when spinning the opposite side by hand.  That means the spiders are doing their thing.  Have your friend hold the axle and try again on the other.  Or did I see you did that?
 
With the shaft out, spin it in the back of the trans in neutral.  It should spin freely.

I had a similar problem when I had some bad u-joints. 
 
I also had this problem on my Fifth Avenue.  That one turned out to be an out-of-round driveshaft.  It vibrated only at certain speeds and shook the car rather violently on left turns.  Only left turns!  I took it to a drivelive specialist and he spoted it - but only when it was turning.  It could not be seen by the "naked eye."

Sorry Guys forgot to respond and update you guys as I was going...
 
I ended up swapping out the 3.23's for a 2.76 pumpkin...turned out the 3.23's were starting to go since the spring from the front pinion seal came loose and got ground up in the housing.  After the gear swap problem still persisted.
 
Then I swapped in some new U-joints, again problem persisted.
 
Well after it was all said and done it turned out to be the axle bearings...even though they looked fine when I swapped in another set of spare ones the problem went away.  So had new bearing installed on my original axles...adjusted the end play and all is fine....kinda....still have a slight vibration...think it's the drive shaft since it's the original style with the rear most section encased in rubber and I think the rubber, when up too temp, is allowing too much deflection in the drive shaft.
