5/50 Put into hybernation
« on: June 14, 2009, 07:17:13 PM »

Work has begun.
This is an attempt to Unitize a 50 Chrysler Windsor with a 86 5th Ave frame.

Here's the Plan.  I am going to try to shove a 318 with a 999 Trans on the back into the chassis.  I am also going to try to put the M Body Suspension package under the frame.  But I dunno now. . .   The rails are pretty funky and the wheels are in an odd spot.  It's almost like I will have to cut the frame off and attach the box frame to it.  When I look at the M Frame, there is allot of hardware in front of the wheels  and the mounts are flat.

This is going to take some thinking.  All I found needed for this front end is a tie rod end and a pitman arm bushing.  Everything else seems to be pretty solid.  The front end appeared to have been greased well.

I may have to stay with the car the way it is.

Thinking of this color with a white roof.

See what you started?

Yep  Sleep made me think of that this morning.  I think I'll just go for the drive train and repair the suspension

I dunno about hacking the frame anymore. . .  I think I am just going to repair the steering and stuff something in there.  I have a 400 and trans I could stuff in there. . .   That may be a problem for the air conditioning then.  Gottahave my cool air so I can be cool

For a driveway project, I think you're biting off more than you can efficiently chew.  I know you've got the skill and knowledge, but doing major framework out in the driveway tends to make one take shortcuts and half-azzed altering.  Plus, you're not 25 anymore...........

Ahhhh Hahhhhhh  Way ahead of you.  I would never do something like that on the driveway.  Stuff like that would be done on the trailer which is flat and level.

25?  Neither are you.  Does that stop you?

I'm not doing the frame thing anyway.

I have to decide what engine to put in it and go from there.  I have a nice 400 and trans, or I can go small block.

what ever works bossman, I think it works well on the car-a little wet sand-a little buff-should come out looking beautiful.

Gotta get back into the car. . . .

I can get a front disc brake conversion for it. . .

Still restling with the engine problem.  Not enough room to put even an LA in there.  I can't have it too high without messing up the drive line.  I night be able to mount the engine on an angle and swing the rear up to get the pitch right. . .   t's gonna suck whatever I do.  The alternative is to put a stock engine back in and build it up.  Might be fun too.  I can still go dual carb, I can get a cam for it, and electronic ignition will make it dance.  Too bad the trans is only a 2 speed.
