Hello from WA
« on: June 07, 2009, 04:11:49 PM »

Good evening. I stumbled across this forum through moparfins.com, and figured that since I'll be picking up a '59 Saratoga next weekend, I should sign up so that I can ask questions from people who know WAY more about working on these cars than I do :)

Little about myself, I live in Washington state, am married (to a very patient, very giving woman, come on, she's letting me go to SO-Cal to get a project car) and have the most awesome 3 year old. Been in the Military for 8 years now, and can't wait to start showing something a little more respectable than a riced out 04 Cavalier that I used to have. You'll probably be seeing a little more of me when I get the car up here and can't figure something out. Thanks!!!!

Well Welcome there

Is that the Saratoga that was running in California with those racing wheel covers?  It was white.  Last I saw it was over 6K

Mine was running at the same time.  But mine was half the price

Thanks for the welcomes!!!

Polaraco, I'm pretty sure it's not the same one. My parents picked this one up about 4 years ago in LA and up until last year, it had just been sitting. I got it running when I was down there last summer. It's yellow and white on black steelies :)

Somehow I get in the groups with all the old farts, and for some reason, I feel like I belong! :) This car is almost twice as old as I am. Here are a couple of pictures of it. Lemme know what you think.

The second one I just threw one of the hubcaps on just to see what they looked like on the car. From what I know of the car, the previous owner did a front disk conversion, and the rest is stock (from what I can tell) There are a bunch of parts in the trunk, a couple of horns and the A/C for it are back there, and I don't know if the heater works because there are no hoses hooked up to it. My dad has the shop manual for it, so hopefully this winter, I'll be able to tear it down, get it painted, rebuild the engine, and put in a new wiring harness and it should be GTG with a little TLC! Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Very nice looking car...Thanks for the pics!!

It screams a bit of a color change to me...not sure but a light medium green instead of the yellow and then maybe a cream top and side accent??

If you look close Brian. . . The Saratoga had a paremeter created in stainless strips.  The center was usually painted a darker color and the rest of the car lighter.  Well that's what the 59 brochures show anyway. . .   If you look at my dark blue pic, I have exactly wahtyou are talking about there.

My car was painted Medium Green Metalic, then painted again in light blue.  It appears to have been done at the factory.  There were options installed and taped off when it was repainted.  Almost like the foreman spoted the problem too late and sent it back.  I thought it odd as I went through the car.

Welcome Rob!

My husband has been in the military for the past 5 years. We are currently stationed in Virginia.

I like the yellow and white combination. It's not a glaring color. Thanks for posting pictures of your project. I am looking forward to hearing more about the car with your updates when you get if from SO Cal.

I just think the darker color will show off all the nice chrome and stainless on the car.  It doesn't have the "flash" on the yellow like it would with a darker color.

But hey it's your car do with it as you like....
