More dirty pictures;
We found out why it idled high.Kink in vacuum line for power brake booster had vacuum leak...This also explained why the brakes were hard to press..

Looks like some previous "mechanic" installed the 90 degree fitting and pushed down on the line so he could install the air cleaner.Doing so also caused the throttle linkage jam against it.This car required you to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor to start it.(note solenoid on left side of carb attached to throttle linkage)
We replaced the damaged line and used a proper pipe bender, cut and used fittings .Clears linkage and air cleaner and power brakes work perfect. No vacuum leaks.

Sorry for the
Butt I like to Steve,LOL!!

That's no problem with me Leaburn!...Cool...I always love your tutorials. I ordered the Pertronix 1 with the Flamethrower coil last night. $103.00 from ponderosamustangco on E-Bay. I have a 160* thermostat ready for Big Red when I'm done flushing with Dawn. Hopefully the car will be ready for a 90 minute ride to Liverpool...Its coming up soon! Are you making the trip this year Lea??

Leaburn, Question for you. I have received my pertronix ignitor and flamethrower coil.  # 19 in directions states: For installations that use a primary ballast resistor or resistance wire connect the Ignitor red wire to the ignition switch side of the resistance. (see figure 3)

Figure three shows the red wire from the pertronix ignitor goes all the way over to one side of the ballast resitior on the fire wall and the black wire goes to the flamethrower coil (negative side)

Is this is the ballast resistor they're talking about Leaburn?? The infamous Chrysler ballast resistor on the firewall...the white ceramic thingy that burns out occasionally and then you can't start the car??

Is this indeed the right way to wire this new pertronix ignitor?? I thought (before I read the directions) that somebody here...maybe you? said the red wire from the ignitor and the black wire both go to the coil...  +/- respectively...

Nahhh

Like we said before. . . .  Just put the red to the + side of the coil and the black to the minus(-) side of the coil.  Does the same thing.  The unit will perform the same and you don't have to mess with wiring

Steve, Will wiring the pertronix ignitor directly to the coil just bypass the ballast resistor then?...basically rendering the ballast resistor useless? Doesn't the ballast resistor put resistance in the ignition circuit that's necessary to keep something from burning out?

Absolutely not.  The coil runs on the ballast.  That's because the Chrysler Coil uses a external resistor.

That's why we told you to do that.  If the car were rewired and the coil was an internal resistor, then you would have to put a 8 VDC supply to the pertronix.

Bob,

Did you order directly from the guy?  I don't see the ignitor & coil deal on ebay.

Dan, This is the link to the 1381a Ignitor I for 60- 72 Mopars w/ V8 engine. He sold the coil and ignitor both to me for $103.00 to my door. I see he'll do them for $100.00 now! Hmmm...His name is Matt...a real nice guy...

I installed the Ignitor EI and Flamethrower Coil yesterday...set the gap to .030" per directions...started the car. It fired right up...hooked the timing light up....Wow...What a noticeable difference in the brightness of the timing light flash!!...I could barely see it before (with the points in place).....now with the pertronix in, it's blinding. The timing was way off...way retarded...so I adjusted it up to TDC...locked it down. Now it's ready for a test run (when it stops raining)...I'll let you all know how it goes...

They can be used in replacement for the Chrysler pick up as well.  Just have to wire them together correctly.  Pretty sure the ignition box produces 8 volts as well.  But you'd have to check
