Have charging issues on he imperial.
 
Rewired some stuff, no charging at all. Tested the alternator by grounding one field and wiring ign1 to the other, it gave a steady 13.3 volts at idle. Ammeter also wors properly.
 
Replaced voltage regulator by a new one, 15.6 volts at idle, tried another new one, also 15.6 volts (tested with several volt meters).
 
What's going on here??

over charging is usually a connection issue or ground.  It's reading a volt high.
 
Do the lights dim when at idle?  Is the ammeter real active?
 
It's usually our beloved bulk head connector

The ammeter is reactive. Will check lights at night, good idea.
 
If its bulkhead, I will bypass it, car is sold and I want it gone asap...

I already thought of a fix. Will plug a relay to ign1 which sends direct bttery voltage to the regulator, ECU, coil resistor etc. I somehow suspect I have some loss in the wiring underdash or bulkhead. Ign 1 only has some 11V instead of 12 something.
 
Didnt really look at the ammeter, I disconnected the alt in order to prevent possible damaging. Instead I did a few testdrives on gasoline, which cost me some tire tread :D Car performs about as good as on propane.

If the ammeter was hyperactive, then I would defitely go right for the bulkhead connector

OK wired the ignition and regulator with a relais, charging is a steady 14.2V so problem solved for now.
