I've seen that before.  That thing-a-ma-bob coming out of the rear of the ignition switch is a flexible conduit. The wires that run to the switch are inside the conduit.  I believe there's something missing at the other end of the conduit though.  Some kind of housing or bracket.  Can't remember.
Whtever.  It's not super critical.  Just a protective conduit.

I thought it was something like that. . .Must have eliminated the bulk head connector.  Gee what a great idea!

I was going over the electrics in this car.  I forgot.  POSITIVE GROUND!

Just reverse the polarity at the generator and switch the battery terminals.

I was thinking of making it 12 volt anyway. . .
