Gosh she looks so good in photos
« on: November 04, 2008, 05:02:19 AM »

Well, I see another car I wanted is now being flipped on e(vil)-bay. It's just amazing what justice photos do to an old tired car. It even looks better now that this classic car dealer has gotten a hold of it and posted his own enhanced photos. What a lesson to be learned....never, never, never buy a car on photos alone. You not only can't see or touch but you can't smell it either. This car has mold growing inside on the headliner because it was left out in the rain....The rear window leaks real bad. (Thanks for the heads up Steve) I e-mailed the dealer told him all...He hasn't replied back. Still a nice car...but needs a total dismantling and restoration. I could have had it for $5400.00. Let's see what it goes for.

I saw that yesterday and felt a little deja-vu going on.  The shame now is someone's going to get shnooked for some serious dough for a misrepresented car, unless they can personally inspect it as you did Bob.

Besides, it needs a big block and a 3 speed on the floor...

I called the Classic Car dealer in Farmington, Michigan today. Bidding on recent e-bay auction got up to $4750.00. They bought it from the guy I almost bought it from....HE was asking $5400.00. They're now asking $7500.00 for it. I told them about the rear window leaking rainwater....no comment at all...I aksed them if they've done any improvements to the car at all...No furyfever2008-11-12 21:22:12

Phase I:
Too many people who could never hold on to a fulltime job end up selling used cars.  They come across a car older than 25 years old and suddenly they become a "classic car" dealer.
They know nothing about the car so they Google it and read that "one almost like it" sold for a gazillion dollars at auction.

Phase II:
Too many people who finally got the last kid through college finally end up with a little chump change in their pocket and now want to buy a classic car.  He was one of those suckers who bought a K-car convertible when they were new and now they are a "classic car" enthusiast.  They know nothing about the car  so they Google it and read that "one almost like it" sold for a gazzilion dollars at auction so this one looks like a steal.

Phase III:
Ebay makes a commission.

All the cars posted look pretty in pictures.
But it is always important to view the car in the flesh.

I saw that blue one moments after the auction appeared on -bay five days ago. I've talked with the owner several times. I get a strong feeling that he did the bare minimum to make it look reasonably good. It still needs a lot.....He doesn't even have it back up and running yet and cannot answer some basic "does this work /does that work" type questions....and oh yes..he forgot to mention in the description that the windshield is cracked....Hello...is anyone in there???  This is something that should have been taken care of before it was painted!!! Believe me, if it wasn't waaay down in Texas, I would have at least thought about looking at it in person...because it is a nice looking car (to most of us). Distance is a big factor in getting the right car. Ya just don't hop in the car for a quick drive to Texas. I will not bid on anything I can't look at in person...Only people with a lot of money or no brains do that...
