Carb De-Oxidation???

Brass looked great after soaking in Ultra One.....very yellow

I soaked the whole AVS from my '65 413 to reverse what sitting outside had done. The steel was like new, the aluminum looked better but needs some more cleaning (like I said above, I'll use mag wheel acid cleaner) and the brass looked very good. I flushed it out real good afterwards because it was going on the shelf instead of coming apart right now.

Have a look at this miniature cival war cannon.  I submerged it in U1 to remove the rust from the cast iron frame, it's an oldie.

See how the ribs on the brass barrel have been eaten...

When I removed it from the bath my fingers were gray from where I touched the barrel.  Otherwise this old toy cannon came out just fine.

Is that barrel an alloy perhaps?

Sounds exactly like zinc's reaction to U1....turns dark and comes off on yer fingers. Plus it poisons U1 a little so it doesn't last very long afterwards....
