360 Heads On A 318?
« on: October 25, 2008, 06:40:02 PM »

I know, I know, I don't even have the car running yet and I'm asking questions on what I can upgrade already   But it seems as though this is a good swap and I found a pair of 360 heads for $80 + shipping I figured I'd ask about it before I jumped in head first

Should be no problem,..as they will bolt right on!. I have done a few of these swaps and the 318 likes the 1.88 intake valve a little better than the 2.02" valve!. You should use the intake designed for a 340 or 360 as the 318 had the small ports and it will mix up the flow too much!. This is a perfect upgrade as the lil' ole 318 can be made into a great package with the right parts!

Does he have to notch the cylinder to clear the valves on that swap Glen?

From what I've been reading, nothing has to be notched.  The 318 block supposedly has tons of room even with the 360 heads.

You must be thinking of a 273, Bob.  Notches? 318 don't need no stinkin' notches!

As was stated the 318" should require no notching!. What are you're intentions with this engine,as there are a few other simple mods to wake it from the dead!. One of the best and cheapest mods to the 360 heads is to have the valves "back cut" but i would leave the ports alone unless you are doing some serious work!

Well the way I saw it was, since I need to redo the exhaust no matter what considering it failed inspection like a year ago for an exhaust leak.  I was gonna see if I couldn't find a set of headers that will fit without going crazy, since I need to do dual anyways.  Granted I can't afford to do all of this now, but was just bored last night so I was browsing and looking at different options I had.

I forgot about the H Pipe.  Maybe it just needs a spot welded on it.  They were prone to breaking with bad motor mounts.  I'm amazed Mobbys didn't bite the bullet.

Going crazy is putting headers on it and wasting your money.

For about 6 to 700, you can get a nice dual exhaust.  If you can't find anyone down there, I send you to my guy up here.  His work is  pretty good.

I suggest an H Pipe and make sure they move the exhaust all the way out to the rear bumper.

Are you going to go the stock look?

Stock look for the exhaust tips?  Yeah I wanna keep 'em pointed down like the stock one, don't think 2 chrome tips would look right...I dunno just my 2 cents
