Nice look for sure!

About the only thing I remember about the 50's and early 60's cars is they all seemed to suffer from premature rust.

Damn, that is a drop-dead sexy looking car.
If it were me and it was close by and in my price range,
I'd be inspecting it tonight!

That's the problem. It's in Palm Springs, Ca. I'm in Rochester, NY. I just talked to the owner...very very nice guy. He's had it four years, needs to thin out the herd. He has a classic car collection. By the looks/sounds of it, it's very solid with an ok paint job, not custom or anything...the chrome is good not great. Sounds like driver quality and the interior is good, not great....could use some updating. Mechanically sound, new dual exhaust system. He mentioned the engine is a 318 with mechanical lifters. They have a "different" sound he said. I did notice the rear view mirror is not mounted on the dash like all the others I've seen. Then again it has a padded dash so I don't know how a mirror could be mounted on it. This might have been added?

Hire an appraiser from Hemmings.  If 25 grand is on the line, 250 bucks is cheap. Commando12008-09-26 21:08:46

The current price guide lists the car as:
#6 partscar - $800
#5 restorable hulk - 2,400
#4 good -  4,000
#3 very good -  9,000
#2 most show cars - 14,000
#1 best in the world not driven - $20,000

better haggle on this one....

What price guide are you using Bob? This is an eye opener. I offered the guy $17,500 last night but he countered with 21k. He sounds firm at that price which is why the car has been sitting for 6 months. I'm going to quit with that....I was looking at two other price guides....which is how I came up with my offer. I thought my offer was on the generous side because I really like this car and let's face it, how many of these do you see for sale now-a-days?

Col. Car Market Review:
5   2250
4   7100
3   14700              between here
2   20700              and here
1   31850

Manheim Gold:
Fair              6000
Good          11000         between here
excellent    21000         and here
show          27000

I decided to check NADA after I saw your guide...I've pretty much thrown that one aside a long time ago because it's always too high....The seller always uses that one....but I was amazed to find this:

NADA
poor           6904
good         12128
excellent   17010

Surprisingly, NADA is more in line with your guide, but I have to say who could even think of getting that car for 12k??! It would have been long gone off the market by now....

Don't know about the market value on that particular car, but it sure is gorgous.   If the guys really needs to thin the herd and he's a collector (with mega bucks), maybe he'll take a serious offer more in your range....

I almost never believe the seller's backstory.....why should I? When I'm trying to sell a car and be as truthful as possible and even if  the interested party can see I need to purge my collection or that the car is as described they don't believe me....what comes around goes around

Those prices were from the 2008 Collector Car Price Guide, edited from the Old Cars Price Guide magazine publishers.

Not too far out of range - and  you can't go wrong with a CA car
generally speaking, but with the economy, I'd think sellers would be
willing to talk turkey... the 60 was the first of the unibodies, so
rust can be a killer, more so than the pre '60 frame cars.  Keep a
line on it! Roger in Bingo

Hey, you're not far away...

Thanks for the info. Roger....Keep hanging around here. I'll have a fin car someday soon....Polaraco has one too a....59 Saratoga. I'm sure there's others...The guy with the 60 Fury is in Palm Springs, CA. I offered him $17,500 but he is standing firm on $21k...by the time I get it home I'll have 23k into it and the interior needs to be redone to get it back to original...all the chrome is getting tired too..Those are expensive upgrades. I'm sure that's why it's still there 6 mos. later....I really like the car though. If you have a line on any 2 door fin car here on the east coast (that you're not interested in) think about me...let me know if you will? thanks. I own a couple of fuselage cars right now...always have wanted a fin car...Where exactly is Bingo, NY? Is it a borough in the city?? I didn't come up with anything when I googled it...Take care..Bob

Oh - sorry - Binghamton... Bing or Bingo in local slang... don't worry,
I'll be around, I like fuselage C-bodies too, owned a bunch of em, and
a couple of pre-fuesy C's too, and currently looking for a 70 or 71
Fury 4 dr... I have a few non-Mopes too (Nova, Starfire, MGB)...
Steve's truck victim '59 is about it - and its for sale, after it gets
it's truck wound repaired, apparently... no thanks to AIG.

People's taste is such an interesting thing.
If it ends up on a logo I'll not buy one.
Just my opinion.

However, if you want it, how much do you want it?  If they guy won't budge....
